My 87 lx, barn find....

Bought it from original owner, that purchased it new in 1988, drove it for years to college and work (he is a banker), ALWAYS replaced parts and did yearly maintenence on car even if it didnt need it, but as he grew in his position and the cars brakes got spongy, he purchased a new LEXUS to drive to his fancy work and left this car sitting under a HUUUUUGE pine tree in his yard for past 8 yrs...so when he decided to move to a new bigger house (5000+sq ft) he didnt want to take with, so i was able to pick it up for $900 from him.....84,XXX original miles/original owner, runs and drives tighter than a virgin on prom night,..has owners manual in glovebox, and factory lug wrench and lock key for factory lock lugs for the 10 hole rims, just did give you an idea of how "untouched" this pony is.....only problem was it had rust in all the "right" spots....HATCH lip was completely gone, hood was rotted, doors are rotted, lower rear quarters have rot, and up on a pillar has rot, but the car is SUPER clean underneath, floors are good, frame rails are good, boxes look perfect, engine mount are clean......perfect project to restore with little effort.....already replaced hood, hatch, and rims of course, but now im looking for a clean set of doors......
:peelout: Ooooo i forgot to mention its a 5 speed as well!

nice find man looks good already...

thanks, cant wait till its finished, it'll be a great show-n-shine weekend cruiser, not like my other beasts i had (89 gt 347 200 shot nos back half tubbed chassis) or (92 lx 331 supercharged notch)......those cost to much to take out of the garage every time...hahaha:thumbsup:

this one will have the back seats in it to stay for sure, thinking about not altering it unless i can bolt it back on to save the "originality" of the car so when my son is older it will be numbers matching all original stock car, if we decide to put it back to stock....who knows...time will tell

That sounds like it was fun to clean up! 8 years of pine sap.

no sap beleive it or not but pine needles EVERYWHERE, and wasp nest in EVERYWHERE, removed 5 nests alone when i took out the 6 piece headlights, nests in rotted portion of the hatch, inside broken corner light.......thank good they where not active nests.....

Sweet! Very similar to the '88 LX hatch I have now. 84K miles, and sat somewhere for a long, long time.
Except I STILL have the 10-holes on mine!! Mine must have been under some kind of cover: Nowhere near the rust issues you have. Gathering parts to do the Cobra brakes / 5 lug swap, so I don't want to invest in nice 4-lug wheels.

Great project!! Have at it!!

Looks like a sweet find. Were the wheels on It ?

no, had ALL stock original parts, 10 hole rims with BRAND NEW bf goodrich tires, they are now sitting in the garage for spare/winter tires.....i put the hood, rustfree hatch , and rims on it since i got it......this car was virtually untouched/unaltered when i got it.....

5 lug conversion......... question?

my wife currently drives a 2000 mercury mountaineer....with, correct me if im wrong, the gt40 intake/heads on her 302 in that truck,........but here's my question....
can i use that truck for the 5 lug conversion, since it already has a 373 rear end and 4wheel disc brakes????

I don't think so! I'd check the flange-to-flange on the rear end before I picked up a wrench. There is also the matter of the suspension pick-up points being VERY different.
On the front, NOTHING will convert that I know of. Not even the wheels.
You are much better off to find a 94-95 Mustang junker and rob the suspension and brakes out of it. There are detailed conversion threads on corral.net.
I bought a '97 Cobra roller to rob for my conversion. I'll have to get a master cyl. (Don't want hydroboost) and swap the front spindles for a '94-95 pair.

Once my post count gets to the big five-oh, I will be posting the '97 Cobra shell for sale on here. Sorry, all the bits you're looking for will be gone!!
