Cliff notes for the lazy- I was tossed keys to a new Camaro yesterday, and took it out for a bit. Overall, the car is very fun to drive. The exterior is unmistakable, and the interior is very nice.
Yesterday, my GF's Father picked up his 2010 Camaro SS with RS package. It's the L99 A6 car with paddle shifters, inferno orange with black stripes, and inferno orange interior. Last night I called him to congratulate him on his purchase, in which he replied that I needed to come over and check it out. After I fed the dog and let him out, I rushed over to his house. First thing that came to mind when I saw it was "BAMF!" The car looks sick in orange! The polished 20s look good showing off the Brembo brakes behind them. After looking it over for a few minutes, he told me that he had to take off for a few hours, and tossed me the key to his brand new car and told me to have fun, and see how many looks I could get in it.
As I got into the car, I noticed that the inferno orange seats and trim add a fantastic touch to the otherwise black interior. The seats felt comfortable and snug. Once I found the optimal driving position, I adjusted the mirrors and started the car. I was pretty shocked at how quiet the exhaust was, but no big deal. Now as others have said in their reviews, it does take some additional adjusting to get the best views from the mirrors, as well as getting used to looking out of the low roofline windshield. I decided I wanted to listen to some tunes, so I turned on the radio. I am very impressed with the Boston Acoustics sound system in the car. The music was very clear, and had great depth to the bass. By far one of the best sound systems that I have heard from the factory (and I have driven a lot of cars!).
So off I went, cruising around Saline. The car has good road manners, but I didn't get on it as it had 42 miles when I left the driveway. I rolled into the throttle a bit, and it picks up speed well. I got quite a few looks in it, especially from the older crowd (40-60). Overall, I really like the new Camaro. It looks great, the interior is awesome, and driving it is a real joy. Would I consider buying one if I were in the market for a new weekend car? Absolutely.
