mustang won't crank....

.... and it's driving me crazy. 500 miles of reliability and it just stops doing it one day. at first it would just click the solenoid. then it started to rapid-fire the solenoid. then it wouldn't do anything. i took the connector before the old neutral safety switch pigtail apart and bypassed it, and it clicked the solenoid (had it out of the car and grounded). hardwired the bypass and put the starter back in, and now it just rapid fires the solenoid again. ARGH!!!!!!!!!. btw, solenoid clicked fine and starter spun over using the old jumper cables test. i'm going to try charging the battery for a while and see if that bumps the voltage up enough to crank it, but if that doesn't do it i'm at my wit's end..............

i'm starting to hate this stupid car, every time i think i have problems out of the way, one invariably comes back to haunt me.

probably the starter

i was thinking that. but then again battery OCV after charging off my running Ranger for about 20 minutes was 12.3vdc, and according to the gauge in the car it dropped to 10 or 9 after attempting to crank it for about 10 seconds. it could be a defective battery, i've only had it a few months.

if i could start the damn thing i'd bring it to work and throw the scope on it. too bad that's not an option. i'll bring the battery to murray's and have it tested and if that's not it i'll make them warranty the starter out. battery has a warranty there too. perks of having worked there and knowing people!

fixed it. got a new battery and starter for free out of it, lol. it was the ground on the backside of the driver's side cylinder head that was loose. that grounds the fuel injection harness and it's where i attached my main ground strap. i must have forgotten to tighten it when i installed the motor. managed to avoid a very expensive lesson!
