Does anyone know how many ft.lbs you need to torque the spark plugs in an aluminum edelbrock 302 head? I heard of plugs flying out if you dont torque them down correctly in an aluminum head

I also have a 180 thermostat in the car, what would be a good heat range for plugs?

Is castrol brand mercon V good for an AODE?

thanks

I use a little anti seize on the threads and go about half turn past hand tight. If the car is stock I'd run stock heat range plugs. If its some high compression race gas motor well then that's a different story.

I would gap them around 30...

Why?

use stock heat range, and gap 45. As far as torque goes if it's a gasket seat plug you'll feel the gasket squish (usually about a half turn past when they start to feel snug), and turn another 1/8th turn. They don'[t need to be torqued hard.

Yea i bought autolite 23s. they do have the crush washers and i have a 6al box. I was told to gap them around .050.

OK i took the autolites back and got motorcraft ASF 42c and gapped them at .052. Does anyone know where i can get new couplers for the BBK intakes? Mine are dry rotted.

I had better luck with ASF 32 with the timing advanced on spray gapped at .045 on my 302 EFI indexed of course using a highly calibrated feeler gauge. lol

What head is on teh car. That asf42c crosses from what i see into a tapered seat plug. Most Edelbrock heads take a 3/4 reach gasket seat. I guess i should have been more clrear when i said use teh stock plug. I meant heat range, but plug for that head.

FR 5 is the NGK V Power 3/4 reach gasketed seat in stock heat range.

The 23 was right, but in a little hotter range. I would use a 24 if your set on autolites in a HCI car. I always had better luck with NGK

24 is the same heat range as teh FR5

WHich Edelbrock, like part number or RPM or Performer. The Motorcraft plugs part number you listed would be the WRONG plug for most Edelbrock heads. Was teh plug a tapered seat or a gasketed seat, my cross reference might have been wrong.

Most performance shops can order you silicone couplers in teh correct size to replace the rotted ones. You're tlaking from eldow to TB right?

Its a performer head. not sure of the part number. Tapered seat plugs. yes from the TB to the elbow. the blue 3in diameter couplers

That is the WRONG plug. Here is the list right from Edelbrock. Get the FR5's Should be pretty easy to find.

I'm not a fan of Champion, but i'm sure they'll work. Get a hold or Reiko and see if he has the FR5 in stock. He got me my NGK plugs.

Ok ive been trying to figure out a miss on this car. Im suspecting a leaky injector, so i tested fuel pressure. It held pressure with just priming the system, and then i started it , ran it for 5 seconds and then turned it off. It held around 32-36( i dont remember exact) with it off. should i pull the rail/ injectors to see if they leak?

How bad is the miss? Has the car ever been tuned? holding at 32 to 36 sounds right. If you pull the rail how are you going to see if it leaks down? Did you put the proper plugs in?

The miss is mostly noticeable at idle, when driving you cant notice it. The car has a tune. I meant pulling the rail with the injectors still attached if you can do that. and i used the champ. rc12yc plugs. im thinking a leaky injector or something along those lines because in the morning i see a little more smoke than normal, not a crazy amount like a head gasket. I can also smell like raw fuel from the exhaust and a gasoline smell in the engine bay sometimes.
