Mustang - Engine Only w/o Trans

Probably a dumb question, but how stable is an engine supported only by the engine mounts (without a trans)? I need to know whether it would be safe to ship the car across country with only the engine installed, no trans... I want to make sure the engine doesn't "kiss" the firewall or radiator when the car is at a steep angle. This is a Fox with a Griggs k member and a 8.2 sbf. Thanks in advance all.

Solid mounts I'd say you might get away with it, poly's or rubber nope. To be safe I would brace the back of the engine in any situation when shipping.

I wouldn't risk it. Even with solid mounts you would have a high risk of inducing fatigue cracks in the griggs subframe. Griggs structural stuff is made pretty lightweight with no extra consideration for non-typical loads into the subframe.
Rig up a brace, or a junk trans to make up the 3rd mount before shipping.

I've welded up a fake "transmission" to haul trucks down the road without a transmission/transfer case. About two hours and $30 worth of 1.25x1/8 angle.

The engine will tear the mounts off the frame if there is nothing to keep it from rocking.

Thanks for the information guys, this is exactly what I needed to know. I need to buy a trans for the car anyhow, so I'll make sure to buy one before I ship it. Thanks again!
