MSD dizzy issues....

been seeing this really wierd issue with the ignition in my mustang..

doesn't really matter what conditions, could be idle, cruising, or wot, the spark will intermittently cut out. usually fires right up and drive it away. a couple weeks ago it left me on the side of the freeway when it wouldn't restart and the battery died. situation is totally random, no rhyme or reason to time or frequency. and its getting worse.

its just a stock 302, factory fuel injection, with an MSD 6AL box hardwired in and an MSD pro-billet TFI dizzy. if i recall correctly a couple years back i had this same problem, same motor same dizzy, and changing to a stock dizzy solved the problem. i really wanna retain the msd because of looks and function.

anybody run into this problem? any ideas of what i can check? i have access to a breakout box at work....

heh.....yup!

My problem ended up being a bad connection on the solenoid. According to MSD, a constant 12 volts must be maintained or the box will shut off. Check all of your wiring. If there are any frayed areas they could be your problem.

I had the same problem..Check every connection

yep

I had the same problem..it was the pick up coil in the dizzy $19.99, i changed msd boxes 2 times--dizzy 1 time & msd coil 2 times-cost alot to find out it was a $20.00 dollar part!

that was my theory based on the dizzy change earlier. do you have to buy the part from msd or can you use a murrays stock replacement?
