Move to Cadillac?

Growing up in Houghton Lake the biggest crime problem was breaking and enterings. And again, the worse the economy, the worse the crime. You will get that regardless of where you live though.

Thanks for the advice...Mesick is actually one of the towns I was checking out the real estate.

Be prepared, we have a cabin in Copemesh which is right next door to Mesick and it's a ghost town. You drive though a 1/4 mile stripe of town and that is it. There is a quarter car wash, hardware store, drug store, school, 2 small diners, and a slimey ass motel.

Anyways, PM 2000Durahoe. From the time he was born until last year he lived in Cadillac.

I really appreciate everyone's responses. The positive replys have really helped me feel more comfortable about this. Yes, I have no doubt it can be really boring, but I'm not into the night scene much anywhere. I enjoy a good whole in the wall bar where I can play Big Buck Hunter and I do like the outdoors. I've become a bit of a homebody anyways. I'm sure I will come across some crazy things in social work, but can't be anything worse than what I've seen in Detroit for the last five years. Thanks again guys.

My Parents have a Cabin in Cadillac with 150 acres.. I love going up there try too once a month very nice area and it has grown ALOT in the last 5 yrs. Very nice area and alot of nice people but from what i have noticed just going to meijers alot of the are UGLY wow never saw any kind of a cute girl up there yet..

If nothing else, look at it as a stepping stone for pay rate increase. You can always look for something down here again, and could afford to be picky untill you find something you really like back in this area.

I grew up in Cadillac from the time I was born until last summer (23 years). The country side is beautiful and the people are great. If you are in true downtown Cadillac there is a lot. Home Depot, Walmart, Rite Aid, and tons of restraunts. If you're a skiier Caberfea is like 10 miles west.

I'd suggest a place in Reed City. It's the same distance from Cadillac as Mesick and you are still in civilization.

If you have or plan on having kids the schools are pretty good. When I started in Kindergarden they weren't that great but when I graduated in 2002 they were a lot better.

I moved to Chicago because my work said they'd pay for me to finish my degree. As soon as my degree and assigned work term is over I'm moving back ASAP. My wife has lived in Livonia, Cadillac, and now Chicago and said she can't wait to get back to Cadillac over Chi-town or the Metro area.

Hope some of this helps

Mike

I grew up (well aged 18 years) in a small town between Reed City and Cadillac. I 100% agree with 2000Durahoe / Mike.

What I would add is there is a pretty big weather difference between north and south of Cadillac. It always seemed like Cadillac and north had like an extra foot of snow on the ground compared to the Reed City area.

It's just one of those areas near the belts of the snow. Big Rapids and Reed City are always a few inches less than Cadillac.
