I'm not sure how many of you have heard bout this on the news, but its by far the most heart wrenching story i ever heard this close to home. We had no choice but do something to help.

" On Nov 18 2012 two families lives have changed forever. The Williams family from New Boston, MI were on their first family vacation in over 10 years. Because of economic times and loss of jobs, this is the first vacation the family could take in years. A family friend, Shannon Henry 18, was also along for trip after saving all summer to be able to go. While on there way to Flordia to board the cruise ship, 1 persons life changing decision to drive drunk, ruined many life's forever. This families SUV was hit head on, on a local South Carolina freeway causing the SUV to flip several times. The rollover caused the son, Jimmy Williams 16 to be thrown from the truck and killed in front of his entire family. The accident also caused long time family friend, Shannon to break her neck and back and she is now partial paralyzed from the neck down. This family has no medical insurance and to make things worse, the parents of Shannon have no insurance either "

These families lives are changed forever. With the deep sadness this has brought to them and all they are dealing with, money issues are the last thing that should be on their mind. After speaking with my Sister, who works with one of the families close friends, I could not just listen to this story and do nothing. While I sat there and listened, it made my health issues I encountered in 2011 and 2012 as well as the loss of my Grandfather, seem so minor to what these people will and are dealing with. Myself and my family have decided to put things we may want, on the back burner for now and use any money we can afford to help these families. We have put together a Spaghetti dinner fund raiser to help these two families. This will take place on Jan 19th at 7 pm at Joy manor at Middelbelt and Joy rd in the city of Livonia. There will be live entertainment along with very nice raffle prizes. Cost of entire is 20 per person and all proceeds will go direct to each family. As myself, wife, mom and dad will be accruing all the costs of this event, we are hoping anyone that can come, will. We are also looking for sponsors. We appreciate anything any one can do to help, this is such a tragic event and very difficult, sad time for these families and their loved ones.

There is also accounts set up for each family at Public service credit union - 7665 Merriman rd, Romulus, MI.

Thanks Motown

Very thoughtful Steve. My wife hired Jimmy and worked with him for 6 months before this happened. Very sad.

His Dad was in the store right before they left talking about how excited they were to go on this trip. Sucks that a drunk did this. I hear he was a great kid and the whole family was well liked and nice.

I've heard the same. Seems like a real hard working, well liked group who's life's have been ruined by some dumb ass.

Very sad, I cannot attend the event but if you have a Paypal address I will make a donation.

Yep, this crap happens every day because someone makes the selfish descision to drink and drive !!! Sorry for the little guy and hope the drunk get's what's coming to him !!

What happened to the car insurance? I'm sure there will be other items the money can go to, but car insurance should cover the medical expenses. My condolences to both families for their challenges.

Most people only carry the minimums on their car insurance which I believe is only $20,000 per person per accident. $20,000 will run out real fast with the injuries sustained in this accident. I believe after that they would have to sue the drunk driver and I bet that will be difficult getting anything out of him. I always carry $100,000/$300,000 on my policies to prevent that from ever happening. If anyone is ever injured I want to make sure they have the care they need. Yes it does cost more for extra coverage but I believe it is worth the peace of mind

The girl would be covered under catastrophic claims. Her medical should be covered for life. I guess a lot depends on what the other people in the car suffered injury wise. Good luck on the fund raising.

One of the families owns dosans in flat rock I believe, it's a store that sells medals and varsity coats and trophies and stuff, we get a lot of our stuff for wrestling and football teams there. So u can always help out by buying anything related to that there. It's a horrible tragity and prayers go to them and there family
