grand cherokee is in detroit, cherokee is in belvidere, and warren will also be building a jeep.

only the small ones are made in mexico.

It looks like they changed the guidelines for 2017 so it's less favorable for Camry which was the most American made vehicle the last two years. Now it's not even on the list.

For the first time over the index’s 11-year history, the considerations for making the list have been changed. The number of models meeting Cars.com’s original criteria has fallen due to the globalization of automobile manufacturing.

Using the new criteria, Cars.com scans for predominant U.S. sourcing for engines and transmissions, and high U.S. manufacturing jobs supported per vehicle [the American Automobile Labeling Act includes Canadian data within the U.S. “domestic” pool]. This year, the index deemphasizes overall sales — a factor that reflects the economic impact of a given model line — to focus on the domestic impact of a single buyer purchasing one model versus another. Ties are broken by giving the higher ranking to the heavier vehicle.

Nice catch! So the old list used to be weighted by sales volume? What a load of shit. I don't ever remember them explaining that, so maybe they changed it because somebody finally figured it out and called them out on it. They told us every year how Camry was the most American car and now it isn't even close. Fuck those guys.

Yea, that's why I always take these articles with a big grain of salt. More often than not, they only factor in the component part source countries and where final assembly is done - and that's assuming they can even get that right. Anyone who's worked at an OEM knows there's a lot more to business than that - from where all of the white collar jobs that support PD & manufacturing are, to where the profits go, etc. I always get a chuckle when someone tries to convince me that their Toyota is more American than my GM/Ford/Chrysler product.

4 Hondas (acura) on the list and only 1 GM product ... thats a big FU to amarican taxpayers that bailed the company out

Do your homework - don't blindly follow these dumb articles.

The fact is that GM employs more people in SE MI than Honda does nationwide.
