I dont know if any of this shit is played right i just free balled it all. Except "Walk" that is right i think. I thought it was good and crunchy so I recorded it. Does anyone know the last song!?

Good feel, but you've got to get in tune! If you have a couple axes we can get together and jam sometime. It's been a while but I'm sure I can still rip through the Metallica catalog...it's not like I'M BROKEN!

;)

Its tuned one and a quarter steps down. but it does sound a little out. everyone is better then me i hate playing with other people i cant keep up! lol

That's not so bad, you can always learn from others! That's how I got as good as I did back in the day.

I haven't played in about 7 years except a little putzin' around once in a while. I can still play a lot of what I knew, but I'll be damned if I can just go for a free ride down the fretboard anymore.

yea all i do is just mess around. I wish i could shred but i just dont think i have it in me. id be happy if i could just one day play the solo from Walk.

Nice job! Like said, the feel sounds good but the tune does sound off a little. Feel/rhythm's hard to get right so I'd say you're doing pretty damn well! I think I've asked before but what equipment are you using?

Sounds great man.....I could only wish to play guitar even CLOSE to that good......Something i have always wanted to do, but never had the patients to learn.

Nothin' to it, really. You could attack it in a couple ways. First either transcribe it by ear, or get the tab somewhere. I'm sure nowadays you can find tab for just about anything in 5 seconds online, can't get easier than that! So after you have that, just split the solo up into little chunks and work on them slowly until you can play it smooth with the right feel to it. Then move on to the next, etc. Take it 5 seconds or so at a time; it goes by quickly. Once you have each chunk down you'll be able to put all the licks together and rip through the solo. This is the way I used to practice all my soloing.

Or you can follow along w/the tab and play the whole thing slow, working to play it more quickly each time. A metronome helps in this scenario.

The main thing to worry about is finger & picking fluidity. Many a player can play the notes on the paper, but to make it sound right you've got to really focus on the feel of the notes. If your hand is sloppy it won't sound too good no matter how perfect the notes are.

Great advice, this is the one thing I struggle with the most.

I use a Crate GT1200H 120watt solid state amp. and a B52 4x12 cab and a Digitech effects pedal. I only used the pedal on "im broken" The guitar is a Charvell its like Jacksons cheap brand.

I think i will attack this solo in that way. that does make it sound alot easier to learn. Got any suggestions on how to learn the Dimebag like squeels i just cant get the hang of them.

When I was growing up learning, Zakk Wylde was my favorite guitarist and Randy Rhoads was another huge inspiration. Not surprisingly, doing pinch harmonics was a *must-do* for me very quickly. I did them all the time just because they sounded cool, while playing along w/songs that had them, or just threw them in for the hell of it. Eventually you get to the point where you don't even have to think about it.

It's tough to explain without being there with you, but I found this pic on Google which shows what I'd want to show you. Make sure you're holding the pick like this:

The pinch harmonic is made by using a downstroke and brushing the outside of your thumb (at the thumbnail) across the string as it's picked...THEN MOVING IT OFF THE STRING IMMEDIATELY. Otherwise you'll muffle it. The process is incredibly fast so I'd figure speed is the biggest issue for a lot of people. When you try it out, just keep picking at it until you get it. The main thing is: a) pick the string, b) brush the side of your thumb as if you were creating an artificial harmonic on an open string, c) don't muffle the string

Look for my video tommorow. I am gonna record one too. This guy was a great guitar player I liked it. I do a couple of pinch harmonics also.

Sounds good. I'm with Turbo89gt though, I just don't seem to have the time or patience. I gave my acoustic to my little brother and he's tearing it up pretty good after only a year of playing. I've been liking the guitar parts in these few songs lately. Most don't sound hard at all to play if you know what you're doing. I can't find the tabs for them though.

Nice job, Mike!

If I ever win the lottery I am going to hire you to walk behind me playing Walk by Pantera everywhere I go. That would be awesome.
