More great news from the city of Detroit

I recieved a drag racing spectator ticket july 29th or something like that. Other people who are on here and read here recieved one as well. There actually was no drag racing occuring while we were at the location we were stopped and ticketed at.

I called the district attorney for Detroit, thinking I'll just ask my prosecuting attorney if they will accept a lesser plea of loitering to avoid court and a lawyer. WELL the D.A. tells me that it is a "state case," and I have to call the state prosecuter and they dont have the phone #. Then she proceeds to tell me that there are several state prosecuting offices in Detroit. Great... up to $500.00 and 90 days in jail plus a misdemeanor on my record=no job EVER. FUCK DETROIT AND MI.

That isn't going to keep you from getting a job.

That will never keep you from getting a job, even if you get convicted of the current charge. I'm sure you could get it bargained down to something else anyhow.

it may not but, it will make it a huge pain in the ass. expecially for having a career in the automotive service world. shops won't want to insure him to test drive cars/drive cars to shows/tow cars with a company vehicle etc..... if he's got bad driving record.

It has nothing to do with his driving record.

Did you call and make a court date yet?

Already had one the 3rd (enter a plea) and now I have to go before judge and possibly a jury the 31st. I know official court costs $$$ and I dont want to have to pay for that but it's looking like I may have to.

Not if you're Not Guilty. Good luck, bro.

It's detroit...Pay someone at the courthouse and you'll be good.. that city is run by crooked cops and officials...the right amount of money will get you out of anything...I know someone who got out of a drag racing ticket this way.

On your next court date talk to the prosecutor and try to make a deal. You will get nowhere trying to make a deal over the phone especially with the city of Detroit.

The 36 th district is the worst!

$500 fine. Good grief. I'd fight that out in court. Considering you were in Detroit you should just be happy that you weren't shot or car jacked.

there is no law against spectating a drag race. You can check Michigan laws if you want. Me and 4 of my buddies got the same ticket, walked in without a lawyer and the courts appointed us a lawyer. The lawyer laughed when he saw the ticket. The judge said is isnt against the law to watch someone do something. The lawyer said you could watch someone kill somebody and you arent going to go to jail just because you saw it. Needless to say it was thrown out all it cost me was the day off work but that sucks too.

Yeah well the cop showed up to the last court date... michigan MCL code 626: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(1b...g.aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-257-626a

Oh yeah and I agree about the misdemeanor being a state case sounds outrageous to me.
