Ok I have a bike I may be trading today for a 1996 mustang gt 5 speed. I know these cars are pretty slow. I am used to having a ls1 z28 and my bikes. I have a few grand I can put into it and I do my own work so free labor. I really want to be in the 12s with it. has low miles and every thing seems to rung good. will be checking compression if I make the trade to see whats up before upgrading it.

Assuming everything is at par. what shoudl I do?

I am thinking
trickflow twisted wedge top end kit with heads and cams
trick flow intake manifold track heat.( i think thats what the trick flow rep said)
larger t-body
long tubes
h or x pipe
already has a brand new flowmaster exhaust.
cold air intake
underive pulleys
and have it tuned after its all together
he just put a new high performance clutch in
I will also change the gears to 373 or higher.

with these mods and supporting suspension mods can a decent driver (myself) get thsi thing into 12s?
also shoudl I replace the maf and injectors and regulator?
I want to out a power adder on too but I only have around 7-9 k to put in at the moment. have to wait til winter for more. Plus I want it done for summer.

Please just answers no bs crap. not looking to argue. jsut want a decent car. I will be having back surgery next week or I would just keep my bike.

or if someone knows a better way to spend 7-10k on parts for this to make it a 11-12 sec car please let me know. I do not want to do a full engine swap. I sold my full bolt on 01 z28 last year and would like for this car to become close to as fast as that car was.

but wouldnt I need the heads and stuff to compliment the turbo? I dont mind adding a turbo or supercharger over winter. Just dont think I can get one right now with all the other parts I will need

You will need to update those heads anyway. Those were some of the worst flowing castings ford ever made. forthe moeny you have to spend, you could drop in a motor built ready to go. I know oyu said you didnt want to do that but people are offering their stuff up for cheap around here ready to drop in.

Like just a newer built 4.6L ?
I dont mind swaping a 4.6 for 4.6 I just dont want to have a huge dificult swap going on.

You can get a used Vortech kit off ebay for $1200-1500, throw some 4.10's in it and some good tires and you will get what your looking for.

Hold out for a Cobra or pick up a used mark8 4V cheap and drop it in. To make that car fast will take a lot of money.

I ended up backing out of the trade. I have a 2006 cbr600rr if anyone is interested in a trade. Guy just seemed like a lier. kept changing story on the car. my bike is like new just bought at the dealer but going to have second back surgery so wife doesnt want me riding anymore lol . My ad is on the detroit craigslist { 2006 cbr600rr lexington }

I would not put $7-9K in a 96GT. I used to have a 98GT, and wound up spending over $20K in mods... The car had 400rwhp and liked to eat belts courtesy of a D1 Procharger. Buying an 03 Cobra was one of the best decisions I've made as far as Mustangs go.

I would only trade your bike for a 4v sn-95 body style mustang, those are close in value to your bike. Or a descent mildly built 94-95

I found a cobra I am interested. I might have my bike sold so I can just buy it then. It's a 1996 cobra claims it only has 54k miles. I have not seen it yet though. Looks nice in the pictures though. He did say it had a little bit of fade under the passenger headlight. (if I have to I will just have a body shop repaint the bumper) It also already has the following bolt ons

steeda short throw shifter
bbk long tubes
bbk h-pipe no cats
magna flow exhaust

so I was thinking of adding the following
BBK cold air intak
BBK t-body
BBK underdrive pullies
Tune from alternative performance.

I am not sure what the stock gears are so maybe replace them too. Will this get this car in the 12s? if not what else?
