Michigan speed limit hike passes

After completing speed studies, require Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police to raise the speed limit to 75 m.p.h. on at least 600 miles of rural limited access freeway — such as I-75 north of Bay City or I-69 between Flint and Lansing — and to 60 m.p.h. on 900 miles of trunk line highway, including large stretches of desolate, largely uninhabited roadways in the Upper Peninsula, within one year of the bills’ enactment.

High population areas are not going to raise the limits..... I believe this was more for rural areas

The population isn't as important as the fact that the roads were not designed for speeds over 55mph (horizontal curves, sight distances etc).

They need to bump 96 from Lansing to Detroit to 90, can't help but laugh when i'm in the bird going 85 and a mom in her minivan blows past me.

The soccer moms are the worst offenders. Then they are quick to yell at people to "slow down and think of the children" when you drive past their house at the speed limit.

60 mph still isn't fast enough for some U.P. roads where you won't see another car for an hour.
I set the cruise at 64 in the UP. I don't slow down or touch the brakes when I see a law enforcement officer and they don't bat an eye at me. I have been doing that for years.

I like the idea of higher rural areas, less traffic less concern. However I wish it was like the old old days when it was 55 at night and 65 during the day on rural two Lane roads

Reading comments in some articles.... some comments were like this was the craziest bill that could ever be passed... and OMG people are going to go crazy and drive way faster like 80. I dont know about most of you but I drive the freeway almost every day and if traffic is light and someone is going 80 they better be in the right lane.... cars... groups of cars go by me driving close to 100 in the early morning....every day.
