Michigan DNR ORV trail suggestions

I know there are at least a few guys on here that like to "do it in the dirt" so I thought I'd hit them up for some suggestions on good trails in this great state of ours!

We ride Leota/Denton and Crapo Creek a lot and those are great trails but I'm looking for some other cools places. I like Leota because it has a little bit of everything. Tight and technical, a few hills, challenging sand sections, etc. (ok, I hate sand most of the time!) Crapo Creek is pretty much 4-5th gear balls out haul'n ass. A little mud can be fun but lets be real, a LOT of mud sucks! (Keep in mind we are on bikes not quads)

Anyone have any trails they really like to hit? Upper or lower peninsula. Stick to trails that are State ran please and that an ORV sticker will keep you legal. I'm too old to try to out run the cops for trespassing!

Thanks!
Eric

all the ones we hit in the UP were tight and technical, but the trails by atlanta(I'll look for the trail names) that we hit a couple years ago were decent, a little bit of everything

most of the trails in the UP are bike only, so i have no ideas on those, I ride quads

I've pretty much ridden every DNR trail in MI. My favorites, in order:

1) Drummond Island
~90 miles of official DNR trails
Roads NE of the four corners are open, legal to ride.
Great overlooks of Lake Superior
Very rocky & hard packed... no sand.
Lots of hills and climbs.
Any where from a lot, to no, water/mud. Spring has a lot... late summer almost none.
Points of interest to "ride to" such as Shale Beach, Marblehead, etc.

No other trail in MI comes close to Drummond. As close to WV riding as you're going to find in MI.

2) Tomahawk Trails A/B/C near Wolverine (bikes only, no ATVs).

These trails are probably the most challenging in MI - single tracks. (Not hard compared to WV)

3) Lincoln Hills / Little Manistee

Well maintained - grooming, brushing, etc.

After that, worthy mentions are Leota, Atlanta, Kalkaska.

Unfortunately, most MI DNR trails are the same old, same old... sandy, flat, whooped mess

There are some decent trails around Mio/Bulls Gap.....there are trails all around bulls gap, others on the other side of the main drag that goes through mio (forgot the road number), and mio loop is north west of "downtown" mio. the bulls gap trails has a little sand, but is the fun technical stuff. Maybe 3rd or 4th gear tops.....there is a campground right on a lake over there were you can ride right from you campground to either trails that loop south or trails that go to bulls gap. The wife and I road from our campsite to bulls gap and back on about 1/2 tank on my 96 RM 250.

Best part is that area is only about 3 hours from the south area (downriver) metro area.

I ride those, hell, my k5 is parked 10 minutes from them

We camped on the state land around there over the weekend. I know most of the trails like the back of my hand. I don't know who long you've been riding them but the north loop used to be a lot bigger. A bunch of years back the trails got messed up by flooding and the state never opened them back up. I keep waiting but no luck yet!
