If you live anywhere close to Lake St. Clair, you know it's time for the annual Fish Fly hatching. These things are disgusting and can travel a pretty decent distance to make a mess of your surroundings. Especially your vehicle! Here's what I have to deal with for about 2 weeks:(taken in Grosse Pointe Park near Jefferson)

Way worse at night as they really like the light:

I grew up in St. Clair Shores and lived in Eastpointe as well. I would must rather deal with fishflies than lovebugs. As mentioned, love bugs screw up the paint on your car. I have yet to see fishfly remains damage car paint. You get two swarms of each (unless you're near the 'glades, as I hear they have three swarms). Just don't leave your windows down.

Yeah, Love Bugs *can* damage your paint if you leave them on long enough. I doubt Fish Flies will do that though. They're just disgusting as they cover buildings, your car, your house and everything around you. And let's not forget the smell. :puke:

I almost slid off the road the other night because it was covered with fish flies. Its like driving on ice.

They hurt nothing. I grew up with them and never even looked at them as a pain. The smell along the lake can be a little strong, but no big deal. Beats trying to wash your car every day for 6 weeks.

Damn I'm glad I live on the Bestside, that's just gross. What is their natural predator besides fish? Are their birds that eat these things?
