Very sad!!!. I Remember when I was a kid, got to meet him and John Hiller at the little ceasers on cherry hill & Wayne road.

I saw him pitch a few times & got some pics somewhere. He had a great year & filled old Tiger Stadium and other ballparks. Started the All Star game & was rookie of the year.
Meet him a few years ago & was still a cheerful guy who loved life. what a shame RIP

Bummer. I remember in third grade he asked my teacher out on a date. She didn't go (not sure why) but she was a hottie!

RIP Only saw him once down at Tiger Stadium, I must have been in kindergarten or 1st Grade.

Sad to see the loss of the Bird.

I was lucky and actually got to see him pitch 3 times in 1976. Being 19 and 9 on a fifth place team with 24 complete games that year was some pretty amazing stuff and pulling out the AL Rookie of the Year and being the starting pitcher in the All Star game.

I always wished we'd have been lucky enough to see have a longer carrer but it's was still pretty amazing to see as a kid. Just imagine if he had stayed healthy along with Rozema coming up in 1977 (15-7 rookie season), Jack Moris and Dan Petry breaking out in 1979 (17-7 and 6-5) and crafty Milt Wilcox and your junk ball man. Giving the Bird 5-7 more good years would have made that crew the best five man rotation in baseball history and probably have gotten them a few more world series appearnces before 1984. :D
