Anyone know what happened?? Or if Kym opened up elsewhere?

Went to get some machine time a few months back and heard business was closed but no details on if he was moving or shut down.

He has not opened anything as of yet, not sure when he will. You might catch him at the First friday race helping with a couple cars, i think he is doing some stuff at home.

Thats for the info.

Wanted to see if he had the records from my Jeep motor rebuild. Wouldn't mind getting ahold of him if he can do head work at home.

last i needed machine work i couldn't even get a person to answer the phone. I had thought he went out of business. Is motorcity still open?

Kim Mapes Joe Balogg and Motor City Motorsports

Hello to all. I have never in my 46 year life been taken to the cleaners as did Motor City Motor Sports did to me. I have all receipts and anything I say can be backed either by proof in writing, witness or other race car builders who had checked my car out.
I have a 2005 Ford Mustang GT that was in Kim Mapes hands/shop. Kim was the shop worker and Joe Ballog. was the actual owner and money supplier. I know that Kim is well known in the race world and has done some good for some. I believe that Kim & Joe were desperate for money and saw an opportunity to rape me.
Kim was hired by me to take my car and turn it into a high powered street car. Spending well over $50k you would think that getting your car back after 2 years it would be ready to rock. I guess putting regular hose clamps on a super charger tube is ok, Right? Or saying come get your car its all set and have coolant leaking, finding the leak in a tattered hose that was bent and twisted and shreaded at the end. How about a hose to the vent tube of the valve covers that was put into a soda pop plastic bottle. A brand new set of racing tires worn down to the metal bands should always be expected or how about a $7000.00 dollar paint job getting scratched? Leather seats getting torn and broken. Super Charger with pry bar marks on the pulley.

FYI I live in Waterford at times a 2 hour drive to Motor City Motor Sports....Oh and a $200.00 dollar + tow. Paid that about 10 times.
Now you say....why did I keep going back to Kim. Kim has a chip on his shoulders and could not admit he bit off more than he could chew.
Promises and more promises. Kim would not devulge anything that he did nor would he man up and give up.
I guess you could say kim was good at addition but now he was into calculus. 2005 is just a little more advanced than 1969. I guess its okay to install a drive by wire throttle body along with FAST system......If you like your car to go into fail safe mode every time you drive it.

I can write a book on what these clowns did and again you ask why I kept going back.....no one would touch my car after Kim worked on it. At Livernois Motorsports they laughed and pointed fingers inside my engine compartment. Ponde was in shock and only charged me 1250.00 for looking at it and trying to figure out what Kim did.. Now the car is at another shop for ten months now and $7000.00 later they have it going.
Yeah, I talked to an attorney who was ready to pounce their sorry asses but a judgement against those two would be like getting a blow job from an invisible hottie.
I only wish Kim and Joe one thing. When they get F'd by someone they say to themselves Karma is a bitch! I wish I was a violent evil bastard but I'm not so all I can do is pray that one day they run accross a person who is and get some F ing with no lube!
Oh I forgot to mention that Kim broke my center consol,(no balls to tell me) I replaced it and he broke it again....talk about a bull in a china shop. Sorry Kim aint 1970's big boy. If anyone wants to know exactly what these thieves did write me at [email protected].
As I said. I have all records and receipts to back up anything I write. If I could say all this to Kim and Joes faces I would. I may not be a big feller but my mouth is. Kim and Joe I would wish you two nothing but trouble and hardship. I hope you both feel the fire of Hell and know that what you did was pure evil! May you never feel comfort in your actions nor rest knowing that you could have helped by telling us what you did to the car.
Hey all is it okay that your brake lights go on when you push in your clutch? I was surprised to find out that oil should not squirt on your windshield when driving. I thought it was normal to have your super charger tubes blow off the car in the middle of woodward ave on a regular basis. Gosh, how stupid of me to think that I could actually drive my car after being bent over and ass raped by Kim Mapes. Thanks Kim!

I bought my car in 2006 got to drive it since then 50 times 45 of those were before Kim touched it. Thanks Kim!

I forgot the race down woodward.....when I hit third gear...no never made it into third...lmao the whole shifter...I mean the whole shifter from the trans up was in my hands. Don Walsh Sr. and Junior are two of the most amazing gentlemen from D&D Performance. Don rebuilt my transmission multiple time because Kim kept breaking it and blaming the transmission.....Mcleode found out recently about Kims installation of the Twin clutch and saw pictures of his installation....Oh did I mention he put the hoses to the clutch on incorrectly so the clutch could never be bled correctly or operate correctly so it blew my transmission multiple times....Yeah bad trans huh Kim?
I finally took it to the great Liberty Transmission who only charged me $2500 to fix Kims trans f up. Amazing now that the hoses are correct and all is installed correctly my car shifts perfectly without grinding gears.

Wow that's terrible. Exactly why I only let a shop do the bare minimum of things that I can not do myself. Machine work only.

They always did top quality machine work for me but I have never had them do anything like what you did.

They did balance and blueprinting my rotating assembly, rod recondition, piston R&R, head milling, valve job, hot tank my block, bore and hone, etc... and other stuff like that.

It's sad to say, but I would venture to say (and this is strictly an assumption with nothing to back it up other than what I've read) is that there are far more shops that will screw you over than will do right by you.

I got screwed by a shop for $50 and he refused to fix it, I can't imagine what you went through. I probably would have given up on him after the first sign of screwing up though.

Livernois is probably the best place to go for a new gen muscle car when it comes to work like that.

Yeah! Motor City Motorsports is all done. Joe had enough of Kims BS and no money to pay the bills. Ask the tow truck driver or his past employees.
Joe has his own auto repair business to deal with. I will admit, Joe was a gentleman about this situation and just didn't have the ability to make it right. He himself spoke of Kims bull headed behavior. I know that Joes hands were tied and he felt bad about what Kim did. Thanks Joe

R28 and Kw123
Livernoise truly seems to be the place for trust and solid work. D&D is amazing and pure gentlemen.
I have been in business for 27 years and would not treat my worst enemy like this. Yes, it is a good thing they don't answer the phone!
I agree that Kim is one hell of a machinest but as I said "bull in a china shop" is a good adage to go by with Kim.
He has to learn to let go instead of digging deeper.

Your right about splitting the job up so no one gets to involved.

I had 3 motors go through motor city. Kim did the machine time only on the block and heads. Everything came back as perfect as it could get on the motors. My father (being a gauge man at chrysler for 20+years) checked over all the machining and verified the work.

Sorry you had such bad luck. I liked working with kim on my motors cause he seemed to take the time to listen to my goals with the motor and built it accordingly. The last shop I worked with about 4 months ago didn't seem to want to spend 2 minutes at the desk. Just tag it...Yeah yeah valve job. After 2 calls asking for measured specs and getting the standard I'll have to get back to you, I stopped in. Forced the guy to either go over the details or give me back the heads. End result was a good finish but it took effort to get the guy to listen. Something Kim seemed to do with my jobs.

On a final note. Two of my motors were older carb style and one fuel injection. The fuel motor was not a crazy build, just a rebuild.

That was my experience at Kim and Larry's where they did a big job. Took me back into the shop and went over everything with me, down to the last number with my balancing. Very cool guys up there at that shop, I was sad to see it go.

I was shocked they went under. I remember I had some work done during race season and you the entire floor was covered in finished blocks and the shop was always jam packed busy.

They were cool guys though.

Zero plans to open another place. Has a 70hr a week position with a well known downriver fab/prototype shop

Motor City Motor Sports Kim Mapes

Thanks Man. Yeah, I can understand the engine building and balancing etc...but time management, honesty, integrety went down the shitter.

I know Kim can build an engine and I mean make a monster but when you go into uncharted territory its always wise to consult others who may have charted that path.

The good thing about Kim working at a prototype shop is that he will not have to manage his time nor will he be punished for trial and errror. I will never doubt his abilities to build machines I will always doubt his ability to do the right thing.

As I have said. I hope he never feels comfortable or rested knowing what he has done to me and my car and I pray one day he feels the same fire I have. All who have dealt with Kim have your own oppinions and stories good and bad. I have never wished anyone ill, even my exwife who stole my daughter from me. But Kim, you had my full trust, confidence, were reccomended never question your invoices or guidence and you are a coward and a thief! Yes, I wish ill will.
