Who owns that place? Drove by there today and they had a bunch of Hellcats and some kinda race type Vipers by the track

They rent it out to the OEM's all the time. When I was working in GM Performance Parts, they were holding marketing events there almost the first week it was open. Could be a club rental too.

Maybe we need to look into a Motown rental? Anyone know how much they charge for track time?

Would be a blast but I think it's huge dollars.

Meh. Just come out to one of our open track events at Grattan next year. 3BallsRacing.com

The Hellcats and Vipers are for "thrill rides" that they give while hosting corporate events. I have a few friends who are drivers.

If you want to get on the track there, they do host open track events every now and then over the summer but you'd be better off going to a more structured HPDE at a real racetrack.

You could definitely form an LLC and buy a unit. A large chunk of them are owned for business purposes and there are some super bad ass units in there. Not cheap. But getting together with buddies to do something like that is another can of worms.

It's a very cool facility, but I would not count the track as "the track." Very short, little or no run off. Cars get wrecked there...a lot.

It's definitely more about the "country club" of the garages than the track. The track itself is terrible for driving fast but it works well for thrill rides and photographs.

I'm always blown away Michigan doesn't have a really proper world class race track facility. When I'm drunk at night I think about pitching the OEMs on building VIR north somewhere within 90 minutes of Detroit. Grattan certainly could be nice but the facilities are basically non-existent.

A friend of mine is an interior designer and decked out a unit in there. She took me in to see it, and that whole place does look like a lot of fun. I agree, it's probably not a world class track, but you could definitely have some fun on it. The unit she did was really cool, had a nice bar and would be a cool place to party.

Grattan is (always) for sale so you could certainly buy it and upgrade the facilities. Last I heard Sam's price is a bit high though.

I heard that GingerMan is going ahead with some garages/condos soon too.

I thought they always had a sign up that said Grattan was not for sale? What do they want for it?

Yes, that's me.

Most people use an app called Harry's Laptimer. It uses your phones camera and GPS to record video and lap data. I actually use a GoPro linked to a 7" tablet to do mine.
