LT1 build

just picked this up last weekend. going to be building a road race engine for my car out of it. Its a 96 4-bolt main and a spun rod bearing. I just finished tearing it down yesterday. Bearing was spun BAD! nothing left of the number 8 bearing at all...crank is toast. I'll get some more pictures of that soon.

It appears this engine was taken care of initially and then suddenly neglected, I think the bearing failure was a result of horribly expired oil being run in it. There were no sludge deposits, but any remaining oil i have found has been extremely bad... almost jelly like.

If anyone needs any parts there is a lot here i dont need, such as the internals and valve covers.

I'll be doing the build as resources are available but the final product will be either a 331 or 355 ci LT1 with a solid roller camshaft and 24x LSx ignition.

I have a low-mile LT1 allegedly from a Firehawk in storage and judging from the timing cover it's at least a 96. Needs to be gone thru to make sure everything is ok, but it looks pretty fresh. Have the manifolds, etc for it too. I was going to put it in another project but that never worked out. Best offer if you need another core or parts or something.... :dontknow:

I also have a NIB opti floating around.....

Dr. Teeth, it isn't a 4-bolt main block by chance is it? I know that you sent me pics a long time ago when I was considering buying that engine but I don't remember. If it was in a OBD2 Firehawk then I believe it should have been an LT4, but maybe all of them didn't come that way.

Never took it apart to look. And I was TOLD it was in a Firehawk-- I have no way of knowing a Firehawk engine from any other LT1 of the same year. I can decipher tho that it's an OBD2 engine with the proper cover on the front though. May be a jewel, may be a garden variety LT1.

And yes I know an LS1 is better, but I'm poor. (<--for those who will respond accordingly....)

Is that a Honda Cub under the towel?
Lol, sure is!

Dr. Teeth If its a 4 bolt block I would be interested in talking to you about taking it off your hands. (thanks joel for the txt to let me know to check this thread!) +1 to you
