so looking into some things..heres the run down on my pondering....

5.7 LS1 engine

glide from a 69 camaro..i think?

QUESTIONS-

1. what will i need to mate these two?

2. what kinda power will a stock glide bellhousing handle?

3. what type of things keep people away from building an lS1 over a 5.3 or a 6.0?

4. i've seen this talk of a TH350 or 400 converter in a glide. why?

I'm new to the Chevy game if you cant tell....haha just sorta testing the waters to see whats up. got a guy who wants to give me a deal.

1. what will i need to mate these two? Crank Adaptor & flywheel .... or a torque converter made to mate.

2. what kinda power will a stock glide bellhousing handle? Weight also plays a big role, along with how much the vehicle twists, much above 1000 you should consider a aftermarket, and I only suggest using a Reid-much better quality peice.

3. what type of things keep people away from building an lS1 over a 5.3 or a 6.0?

4. i've seen this talk of a TH350 or 400 converter in a glide. why? 1/4 mile? 1/8 mile? Street driven? Track only? Weight? Hp? Tire?... many factors to consider.

Imo I'd put a 6.0 in it. Find a wrecked van with that motor. Slap one of those china 88s on it let it eat. Pit a th400 in it. Will handle more power for less $

Most of your questions have been answered already Pete
Only reason most people end up 5.3/6.0 over the 5.7 is cost and strength
5.7 is all aluminum block which tends to fetch the higher price for lightweight. however it does suffer a tad on the strength compared to iron block

Trans greatly depends on what your building car to do

GM made a lot more 5.3/6.0 engines than 5.7.

I put about 750hp through a 1.76 stock case PG.

The input shaft spine count is different. Glide is 17 big splines. A TH350/400 has 30 splines. To make things simple, you use an aftermarket 30 spline input shaft in your glide and then you have a lot better selection when choosing a torque converter, especially if you are like me and buy almost everything used. ?..I prefer the term. "Proven"... :)

Goodluck! +1 to Rich at Detroit Gearbox

I've put over 1200hp through a stock case glide a bunch of times before. I did go to TH400s in both cars now though.

5.7 is a little weak if you want to boost it. If you get an iron 5.3 block you can bore it to 3.898 and use all the stock size LS1 stuff. Good way to make big power on a budget. There are plenty of 6.0 blocks out there that can take a ton of power too, and still use off the shelf parts. 6.0 is nice if you want to stroke it. I wouldn't bother stroking anything lower than a 6.0.

well i have the LS1 sitting around so i think im gonna toss her in for fun....unless someone wants to buy it....lol

and think im gonna attempt to build my first glide.

Thanks guys!

How did you come to this conclusion?

So i found the block casting numbers. comes back to LS6. (12561168)

after some research, i found that 25% of the fbodys came with an LS6 lower end with LS1 heads (241 casting number) and LS1 intake.

kind of interesting.
