Lost the keys to my 2002 mustang gt! Now what?

I lost the only key I had to my 2002 mustang gt yesterday. I called the dealership an they said they can only program keysets within a 10y window. And the local locksmith wants $130 for one key. Anybody run into this problem in the past? Can I have one cut using the vin then program it myself?

Ford only supports key codes for 10 years. If you know the original selling dealer, they may still have the key code on file, under the vin #. If you're not the original owner, the dealer probably won't give you the key code anyway, though. There's a ton of red tape to access this info these days. The keys are cheap, $20~25, but to have a locksmith do a service call, read the tumblers, then make and program a key, can get expensive. If you do that, I'd have them make two keys, not just one.

sardeanie lost the keys to his 95 a couple years ago. Pretty sure he had a locksmith come out to his house and work some magic. Might want to shoot him a PM to see what ended up happening.

Will do, this definitely sucks!

Paid $20 to some guy in Romulus who programmed a PATS key for my Explorer when all I had was one original. I found him via Craigslist.

That price was with me supplying an already cut key. I know he has the machines to cut keys and the correct ones. Wouldnt hurt to give him a a try.

Give russ milne ford a call, I used to do their IT and they used to make keys all the time for older cars. They worked with someone that had the ability.

Don't quote me on it but I think it was under a 100 a key.

Gave them a call an 02 is to old for them. Worth a shot

The local locksmith is charging me $55 to cut and program a key as I only have the one. It's half the price the dealership is charging.

He's in Genesee County,I hope to get the key for my '04 Ranger cut today and will let you know if they need the vehicle or not to do it.
If not, you can send me your key as it's not too far from my workplace.
