Hi guys, this is a long shot but does anyone near Telegraph and I94 have a GM 2.8L, 3.1L, 3100 Oil Pump Drive Removal Tool? There are a couple of different designs but they are for being able to remove the GM 2.8L, 3.1L Oil Pump Drive without having to take a lot of the intake a part.
I need it tomorrow . I wish I would of known earlier, I could of ordered the OTC version but it's too late now.
Thanks,
Josh

I did them years ago like around 1995-1997 and I remember there was more room than this 2002 Malibu. I'm gonna try getting it without taking the top half of the intake off but it looks real tight. I was hoping to try one of the special tools.

Unbolting the TB, removing the heater pipe in the LIM, and I think removing the crossover flex pipe will be required. Been a minute since I've done that. What is the reason for messing with that??

I just started the job and this one will require upper intake removal. It completely covers the top of the oil pump drive with only an inch or so gap between the top of the oil pump drive and the bottom of the intake. I've got the TB off , and on this model (2002 Malibu) the exhaust crossover isn't in the way but there is a large metal can/block on the fuel rail right near the OPD that might be an issue. I won't know until I get the upper intake off.
The reason I've got to pull it is that it is leaking oil. It's o-ring must have gotten hard and posssibly cracked. I've done a hand full of these in the past for the same reason but they were earlier models, like from the early '90s.
Anyhow back to work I go.

Hmm.. I got the upper intake off, then had to unscrew the fuel lines from the fuel rail. Pulled the oil pump drive and it came out real easy, too easy. I could tell someone had been in the intake before because I could see RTV squished out out of a couple of places that should't have RTV, a hose clamp missing on the booster vac hose to intake connection, felpro upper intake gaskets and lastly the Oil Pump Drive didn't have an o-ring but did have a paper gasket under it's flange. Also who ever was in it last must of hammered a screwdriver under the flange to "pop" the OPD up because the aluminum flange was dinged up pretty good.
I cleaned it all up, put on the new felpro o-ring and a slight smear of rtv under the flange of the OPD where it mates to the block. I used the RTV to help as a secondary seal and to fill in the little gouges in the aluminum from who ever used a hammer and screwdriver.
About to go back out and put it all back together.

The 2.8/3.1 MPFI's were real easy to do. And it was that oring that leaked on those motors over the LIM gasket. On the 3100/3400 SFI's its the LIM gasket that leaks oil and or coolant in the valley IF it doesn't leak internally first and wipe out the cam shaft.
