I appreciate the offer man, I would take you up on that, but I just killed the ball joints on my jeep pulling a friend out this weekend. So, its gonna be a while until i can sell it for a descent price.
However, I borrowed a friends '92 BMW 325is for the last two days because i'm fixing some rust on it. I really like this car, it has 240K miles, and it runs better than my 160K mile jeep. Plus, it is a blast to drive. Are these cars typically this reliable?
If you make sure to change the timing belt every 50k-ish miles, then yes they practically live forever from what I've seen/heard. There are a few items on the older 3 and 5 series that seem to always need to be replaced, the rear control arm and subframe bushings being 2 instances, but the cars are built like tanks it seems. Good luck finding one without much rust underneath though, they're out there but few and far between, a lot of them are pretty crispy.
