Looking Into a Quick, Cheap Car. What to buy?

I know cheap and quick don't go real well with each other, but i'm still looking for some opinions from people who know what their talking about. So, heres the story, I've been a jeep guy for a few years now and i'm on my second grand cherokee. My current Jeep is a '95 Grand Cherokee, V8, small lift, borla exhaust, t-case swap, etc... It's worth about $2500 realistically. I am finally tired of pouring money into that thing because it has been insanely unreliable, and the gas milage is terrible (9 MPG). So, i'm looking to cut my losses and move into the car world for a while, but i'm not sure what I can find for about $2500.

But, I'm don't want a mustang/camaro because of insurance costs (I'm 17). So, what else out there is american (or even old BMW's maybe, no honda, mitsubishi, etc. though), under $2500, and relatively quick? I know i'm not going to find something fast, but more along the lines of a good platform that would be too big of a pain to mod. I was looking at thunderbirds, taurus SHO's and grand prix GTP's. Are these descent cars? Any opinions are welcome :icon_mrgr

Thanks,

Ben

Sounds like a Lincoln Mark VIII would be perfect for you.

I sold my previous 1997 LSC for $2800 last year. In my opinion, there is no other car that can compete with a Mark VIII when you factor in price, performance, comfort, reliability and looks.

Buy one of these, they are the most car you can get for the money,
and they are fun to drive & cheap to insure!

Also a good recommendation! However, when I was looking for one recently it was hard to find anything decent for under $4K.

Mark 8's are ok, but be prepared to do a little work on it... get a cleaner 93-94... you should be able to run 14.5-14.9 all stock in the 1/4 mile..

I like the GTP idea or even better, the Regal GS, but I'm also bias. I do also like the CVPI though.

I'd 2nd the Mark VIII. I got a running one with flat front bags for $860. Drove home fine. I almost decided to DD it instead of parting it out like I bought it for. It needed the interior cleaned up and front air bags or a spring/shock conversion kit and that was it. Regardless, the Mark VIII will be way cooler than a Crown Vic.

Mark VIII is as fast as a S/C stock. Might not be as easy to mod to make it faster but it won't blow the head gaskets if you look at it funny either.

For the price of some of the others on CL that are still decent looking, your $2500 would get you the car, 4.10's installed by Scott at Driveline Solutions, and a tune. Mid 14's for $2500, not fast but not too shabby.
