Looking for tire pressure opinions

1500 silverado, unloaded, standard cab short box.

285 r16 mud terrain tires, mostly highway driving.

What pressure would you run?
 
Depends on the load range of the tires. My truck has load range "E" and i run the fronts at 55 and the rears at 75. If you're not hauling any weight run them all within a few pounds of the OEM recommendation on the door sticker or the side of the sidewall on the tire..
 
I always run the sticker, on my 97 F150 4X4 with Continental Contitrac 275-70-R17. The wear is great. No uneven tires, no worn edges, no nothing. These wore perfectly, and I still have them. They are a quiet tire, but no the best in the snow. 4X4 isn't so bad, but you can't get out in 4X2. My 275-60-R18's BFGs on my 04 F150 4x4 would get out of any snow in 4x2...haha...those were awesome tires.


FYI, a little interesting info is at the yard here, I bust tires off of wheels sometimes, and when I let the air out....lately it has been gushing out!!! I think people are running more air in their tires now to get better gas mileage. I hooked up a couple tires to our machine and they rear 60PSI...in a car tire!!!! Man, I would be worried they would blow out.
 
I ran about 45psi on my extended cab 4x4 Silverado with 285/75-16 All Terrain TAs. I tried more pressure but the ride was noticeably harsher so I backed it off.

The pressure on the sticker in the door jamb is set based on ride NVH. As long as you don't exceed the max pressure on the sidewall of the tire, you will be ok.

I saw 120psi in a 35 psi max car tire once
 
Factory rim?

is it a 6.5 or 7" wide rim?

Either way: A 285/75/16 tire should have at minimum a 7.5" rim. if your worried about proper air pressure; worry about proper rim sizes too.

and for those of you out there that have run xxx size tire on whatever size rim thats too small; good for you. YES it might work fine, but there is a reason they dont suggest it. and some people who dont know, may want to be made aware of what they should put on and what they shouldn't.

For example, Ive talked to several people with trucks with 6" wide wheels; who have been at certain shops and they were willing to put the biggest 285 all terrain on the truck they could. Just to get some clueless guys money, and to hell with what might happen.
