Looking for someone with sports collectibles knowledge. I have 15 storage totes full of unopened Nascar car diecast cars 1:64 and 1:24 scale. The years range from the early 90's-early 00's. I have some very rare cars in the collection such as a 03 Dealer Edition #29 Kevin Harvick 1:24 signed by the entire 29 team and driver kevin harvick as well as team owner Richard childress. I have sponsor promotion cars from goodyear and UPS. Some gold plated and platinum plated 1:24 scale cars. All cars are in their original boxes and have never been taken out. I am not sure if it is better to sell as a complete set or piece out the collection.

I also have a team signed Detroit Pistons Basketball from the 94-95 season. It was signed by the entire team. Not sure what the value is.

If anyone out there knows sports collectables or could point me in the right direction please let me know.

Thanks,
John

Diecastregisty and Beckett would be places to get an idea on pricing for the NASCAR stuff. By the late 90's and early 00's there were a few companies cranking out so many die cast editions and special paint schemes had taken over to the point that there was so much stuff that none of it is really worth anything. Promotional cars with extremely limited numbers can still have some decent value but I think the non-liveried gold and platinum cars aren't worth much. I recently looked up a car I had that I thought might have decent value (1:24 from Stewart's rookie year). It was worthless. I had a pair of cars from the Busch series when Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon were teamed up. Also worthless, when I was looking into the value of those I found out there was an autographed edition of that set. Most prices were pretty high on ebay but just sitting there, I found one on ebay that was under $20, showing that set is also worthless. It was cheap enough I picked it up anyway just to have.

You are always going to make more selling individual pieces than selling everything as a collection but it is certainly more work. You might be able to unload some of the less valuable pieces easier by putting them together and pricing a lot as a decent deal though.

Completed ebay auction search (go to Advanced Search and there is a box not very far down to look at completed auctions) is a good way to gauge how much things are worth too (and free unlike the pricing guides). Black numbers indicates the auction completed without the item selling. Green means it sold.

Here's an example of the Martin/Gordon set I had picked up with a promotional car also included in the sale. So a rare autographed edition set of Gordon and Martin and a pretty rare Martin promotional packed Folgers car. All for the whopping high price of $22.50

If you have an Earnhardt Wheeties car I know those have some value, not the later remakes that sold in retail stores, just the original Action branded ones that came out when the race actually happened.
