looking for advice/thoughts

I'm looking at starting a rebuild on a 454 bbc this winter and I'd like some advice.

The engine is out of a 78-79 winnebego. it was pulled with 78k on the odometer. it's set in my garage for about 4 years. The only thing that has been opened up is one valve cover so I could check the heads. They're 078's. the rest is a mystery at this point.

I'm building this on a fairly tight budget and want to run it on pump gas, AND would like to get 600-700 horse power out of it. It's going to be pushing my heavy ass 71 monte.

this set-up will see the track a few times a year at the most, so I'm looking for a long term motor.

one last thing...who's a reliable machine shop? all I've heard about is the bad ones.

I told another guy here yesterday there is a Machinshop that will be joining as a Motownmuscle sponsor here very soon. Excelent quality work.

What I would do.

A set of CNC ported oval port heads maybe the edelbrock variety. Solid roller and a good single plain. I would think with the Ci the motor could use a bit of stroker upgrade especailly consdiering that the stock parts you have now could need replacing or upgrading.

I would try asking the guys in the NA tech section on the Yellow Bullet. Lots of proven combos you could duplicate.

Hi everybody,

I am Hataish. I am helping people on different forums since last 5 years.I have registered myself on this forum yesterday. If you guys need any suggestion, any help or any guidance. Please feel free to share your problem with me. I will guide you properly.

Pat...not sure what you mean by budget build with a bbc shooting for 700 hp n/a.You most likely will require an overbore to clean up the cyl walls..so this would be a good time to drop in a 4.250" arm and go with displacement vs rpm for a street unit=longetivity.
FWIW--give Denny Hummel a ring at booth/arons in Berkley. He has done 2 bbc short blocks for me..both sealed up nice and make great power.
