Looking for a puppy, anyone have any leads?

IMO golden retrievers are the PERFECT dog. they are great size, amazing with kids, protective(but not aggressive) and they are beautiful animals. we have a golden and it is unreal how well mannered and smart she is.

Labs are very high energy and rambunctious. plan on a lab chewing up something you dont want chewed on. because it will probably happen. labs need alot of attention and exercise (same with a golden) but goldens are more docile and easier to train (again imo)

i will always buy female dogs. they are loving, yet still protective, and they dont walk around and piss on everything.

once a golden gets used to its owner, and realises that you are its master (so to speak i guess) they are amazing dogs that will do whatever you say, and will be extremely loyal. i can tell my dog to do anything (that she is trained to do) and she will listen. they are awesome, awesome dogs.

My cousin has lab/husky mixes that are good dogs.

Its there second litter and from what ive heard the first pups have been awesome

they are cool lookin pups... some are tan w/ blue eyes others are black or black/tan mix

hes giving them away for free because the city is on them about having so many dogs (litter was of 11) He just wants them to go to good homes before they get sent off to the rescue
They do however need all of their shots... they are about 8 weeks old I believe and are ready to go.

but let me know if your interested

Ingham County (a bit of a drive for you) has a bull terrier/JRT mix that is cute as hell... They also have a beagle puppy... And had a couple young bullies... ingham.org/AC

I live up in Holly, there is a couple in Fenton that it seems every spring has a litter of labs, I saw yesterday they had a sign up. If I get a chance I will get the address this weekend.

We've got four dogs....

a golden, a miniature pincher and 2 German Shepherds.

Here's our newest addition:

Gracie, 4 months.

If you want a Pit, I can get you the Number to the Breeder I Got mine From. 23mile New Baltimore Area...

I'm not hung up on having papers, a mut is fine by me. I just want to make sure the pup is of reasonably good stock. A lot of things can be trained out of them, but then again certain things they are born with.

Thanks again for all of the input. I will most likely adopt.

+1 for thinking mutt. The three cats I've had as well as the one dog have been strays and an adoption from the Human Society off I-75. All were/are great pets. I could never understand the need for a inbread/pure breed dog or cat as just a pet. Plenty of good future buddies at the shelters.

Pure breeds have certain traits...which is the only reason I could see caring for a "pet". Although my dog is not papered there is no way denying he is a pit bull or Am Staff.

My first dog growing up was a GSD.Collie mix and probably one of the best dogs I have had the pleasure of knowing....with exception to my dog Khan. I grew up with GSD my whole life all were from breeders except for the first mixed one. I can say some did not have breed traits, some did. Every dog is different.

I would stay away from any herding breeds though with a toddler. They tend to be nippy and some like to try and herd their people.

there is a humane society on 22mile near vandyke... this is where i take my pup for all of her shots because it is the least expensive... breeders are the best place to get dogs though... normally they will come with a warranty for their heath... no matter what a puppy isnt going to be good with an infant because they nip and jump constantly so be carefull and keep an eye on them

all dogs are going to have their certain traits... i had a sheltie that barked at everything no matter what... my goldens were really good dogs with everything and everyone, just kinda big... and now i have pit/amstaff pup that nips at everything but doesnt bark and is very well manored

You know Crazy Al not everyone is a puppy peddler as you call it that breeds, some people actually want to keep quality pups around because buying them from a pet store is not going to do it. I used to breed Rotts and there were no dogs out of a pet store and hardly any from local breeders that had the back ground mine did. So dont always look down on someone who breeds dogs.

X2 I used to breed Goldens. I too had very good quality lines and puppies.

True enough, there are people out there that try to make a living on selling puppies, but not all. That's why you have to do your due diligence.

You know Joe if everyone got there dogs fixed their would be none of the great dogs in the pictures that we have in avater including yours and mine.

True in theory, but it will never come to that. It's about controlling the population, not eliminating it :D

Also, where my dog came from, they could care less about most things, much less the law... Pieces of shit used her for bait and left her to die a starved flea ridden pile of bones, then we saved her.

My wife and I are looking for a puppy for our family. I have a young daughter (3 in August), so I was thinking along the lines of a lab.

We had one lined up earlier today, but then the people went sketchy and stopped taking our calls. Dirt bags! Anyway, if somebody has a lead please post here or give me a PM.

The mall wants obscene money for their pups, and I'm not looking to spend $800 on a lab pup from the mall.

Sounds like a nice dog right here on the forum :D

Puppies find a home in no time, 3 year old dogs have much less of a chance of finding a new family :(
