Locating a car by vin

Started cleaning my basement and found a folder with build receipts for 69 nova I sold. I have been thinking I would like to try to find it. On one of the papers I found the vin number. Has anyone tried to locate a car this way?

I've tried, but never got anywhere. I had the SOS run it and they said it was in Indy, but that's all they could give me.

Thanks. I figured they couldn't give out that kind of info. I don't know why, but since I came across these papers I can't get this car out of my head. It was my dd in high school. Girlfriend (now wife) hated it so I sold it.

Dosen't a carfax give you more information as far as owners name? I dunno if it'll work for something that old though. Good luck. There are cars Ive had in the past that i would love to track down and see if they are still around.

I believe carfax only goes back to 1981. If would be perfect if that would work. Thanks for the replies.

You need to do a title search with the SOS. They usually charge you for every hit (past owners) found. Obviously this will only work if the car is still in MI. If the car has left the state, they'll usually only tell you where the car went (City & State). If you know the state, you can then do a title search in that state.

Thanks! I will give it a try this week.
