local transmission shops

I'm going to be pulling my t5 trans to do the clutch and a few other repairs on my 86 5.0. The trans sometimes pops out of 2nd on decel and whines in 3rd, so I was thinking about dropping it off at a local shop to have them open it up and take a look inside for me while I'm working on other things.

Does anybody have any recommendations in the metro area? I dont want somebody to tell me I need a new trans, and I dont want somebody to rape me on parts / labor. I prefer not to open up the trans myself, I've never sucessfully put one back together, heh.

Let me know,
thanks

Yup. Never dealt with Liberty before but never heard a bad thing about them. Riding's has taken care of several transmissions for me in the past and all have been perfect. Top notch work.

liberty stands behing their work and i have even seen them buy a trans back once when someone i knew went with an automatic instead of a stick... ridings is a great guy to deal with also and does top notch work

Oh BTW the description of your problem leads me to belive that the input shaft bearing is bad.

really? by it popping out of 2nd? its weird to me... when i let out the clutch on decel it feels like a chattering clutch and it pops out of gear. only in 2nd though. no chattering clutch feel on any other gear either.

Yeah when the input shaft bearing goes bad it makes the trans whine in 1st-3rd and cuases pop outs in the low ranges. The cluster gear is no longer suppoerted by the bearing properly so everything starts to wiggle around.

Its bad news.

ahhh yes, that would explain the chattering clutch feel. thanks for the info!

i didnt seen ridings in the sponsor list. where are they at?

He doesn't have a website yet, but he did the transmissions and converters in both PINKS cars. Top notch work for sure, he did the trans and rear end in my street car and is doing the trans in my race car. He's on the east side.
