Light surface rust on resurfaced flywheel?

Will this hurt anything? Should I just leave it or hit it with some 0000 steel wool or something?

Flywheel was just resurfaced about a month ago, but it sat for almost a week before I realized I wasn't going to be using it right away, at which point I went out and hosed it with WD-40. A little surface rust had already started.

From my searching on Google it seems like I shouldn't worry about it, but I figured I'd ask here too. I'm no mechanic so I'm a little paranoid about doing things wrong because I really don't like to do things twice because of an easily avoidable problem. I know they always make it a point to emphasize how having a clean/perfect surface on a flywheel is important, so I figured I'd run it by everybody just for peace of mind.

Here are a few pics. It took me like 15 pictures to get a couple ok ones that kinda show the light rust, if that's any indication to how minor it is.

It's fine. Make sure you use brake clean to get the wd40 off. Also, you could use a dry brillo pad if it really bothered you, but like OJ said above, it happens on any car that sits for a few and they're fine.

Thanks guys. That reasoning is what I figured, just didn't know if it was any different since the two surfaces haven't been "mated" yet.

hit it with some red scotch bright pads BY HAND prior to install. Other then thats its not a big deal.Wax on Wax off.

you will be fine. "flash" rust is the same thing that happens to brake rotors after the vehicle sit. the first time you stop the pads remove the rust, no harm done. with that said flywheel (like the rotor) will rust a little, and the clutch (like the pads) will take it all off with minimal effect on the friction material. if it were my car id lightly remove it by HAND as stated. then brakeclean all the WD40 off before you install the clutch and pressure plate.
