I live in Warren, got a warning from the City of Warren code enforcement dept. about my jeep not having current plates, the jeep is backed into my driveway. it is complete without any parts missing and the only way that you would be able to see that its not registered is if you walk up my driveway on private property there is no possible way to see my plate from the street or either side of my property. can they just go wherever they want whether its private property or not without a warrant. I had this issue a few years back and the police officer told me to just it back into the driveway and I will be fine, this was about 3 years ago, and I don't remember the officers name.

It's not sitting on the street. It's on private property.

It don't run officer, I'm having trouble locating the title, and no insurance company will insure it......... I don't know why. They won't tell me.
Now if there's not anything else I can help you with, please see your way off my porch. And have a good day

Generally they do not bother to check unless they get a complaint.
City charter says the vehicle must be plated.
My suggestion, if your not ready to plate it is to get it inside your garage.
I also do not suggest challenging the code enforcement people.... you will not win.

I would contact the City of Warren and ask them for the text of the alleged
code violation. Then read it, read the entire section. There may be an overreach
going on here, there may not be. I would simply try to clarify & understand, then
respond accordingly.

Is there a violation code number cited on the "warning"?

Your bigger problem is the person that complained, they will just get more annoying if they don't feel they "won".

I have a little input....

The code dept already made up their mind. If you "win" now you better bet they will keep slow rolling your house to find extra crap to pin you with.

I had a neighbor who had a unplated car in his driveway behind a privacy fence backed up to his garage (Mount Clemens) and he got a fine. A neighbor called on him and complained. The city code enforcer walked in his backyard squeezed between the garage and rear bumper to check the plate then issued a warning/fine.

Is this what some would call "white people problems"? LOL Sounds like you live in a neighborhood nice enough for people to care so take it as a sign and bend a little. That same nosy neighbor might report an intruder on your property too someday!

I'd have no problem if you were my neighbor.

It could be a terrible neighborhood with a shitty neighbor.

All citys in the tri county area have charters that do not allow unplated vehicles.

Dont play around here. You will not win. Move it or plate it.

^^^This. Arguing with the code enforcement people will not go your way. You might get them to tear up the infraction this time, but they will be back and make it their goal in life to f**k with you. They have all day, every day while you're at work.

If you think you had an "intruder" on your property, set up a trail/deer camera to get pics in the future. or just call the police & say you "thought" you saw a man with "what looked like" GUN in your back yard. JK

They can do it. However, they can't disturb anything. Put historic plates on it. It is going to be a constant uphill battle from now on. Someone doesn't like you and they're going to be turning you in continuously for everything. Sterile Whites is just as bad as Warren.
