Legal Help on Non-Compete

My good friend works at an insurance agency and has signed a non-compete within 25 miles. He doesn't know if it would be 25 drive-style or just 25 miles straight line.

Also is there any way he can get it nulified or something. He wants to open an agency but 25 miles seems to take away alot. He is looking at areas that are 17 - 20 straight line but are really a 30-35 min drive from where he currently works.

ANY INFO WOULD HELP.
 
It's more than likely within a 25 mile radius, which means it would be a straight shot, that distance, in any direction from that agency.

Do some research most non-competes have proven to be illegal and thrown out in court.
 
Thanks for the help. 25 miles is further then he thought!! He was hoping it was drive line but I told Him I didn't think so.
