Layoffs at Ford

Not that we're hearing of any cuts anyway, but I am still very relieved to be fully assigned to a BET program.

Why wouldn't the work on reskilling or transitioning those people? Do they really think they can afford to hire people with all of those skills?

I wouldn't compare Ford to Tesla any more than I'd compare them to Mitsubishi. You're supposed to aim high, not set the bar so low you can't even trip over it.

Yea, you are spot on. They are definitely cutting with a dull knife in broad strokes. My neighbor told me that a friend of one of their kids got laid off already - he was a EE and a programmer in cabin controls and systems. I am sure he will have a job again as soon as he wants, but I can't believe Ford would let go anyone with knowledge of vehicle controls programming. Vehicles are getting more dependent on software every day, and if anything, automakers should be hoarding people with that skill set.

I am not a big fan of Farley. When I look at him, all I can think of is "Fat man in a little suit". Laying off always appeases stockholders, but so do other things that are also under his control - things like sales, profits, and EV transition. Doing layoffs right now is because he can't move the needle on the other things.

Ford just received 100 million from the state to create 3000 jobs. The way I read this Ford must create those jobs or give the money back. Looks like the loophole is that they can hire blue collar and fire white collar. As has been stated here not the best way to recruit and maintain a talented work force but a good way to put tax payer dollars in your pocket.

While I love cars and am partial to GM, most days I'm glad I don't work in automotive. Funny how the Big 3 operate sometimes.

- Issue fat $7k+ profit sharing checks in Feb, then layoff 3k+ workers in August due to profitability and market concerns.
- Sets Tesla as the role model for not having a "brackets" engineering group, while completely overlooking Tesla's product quality problems. Maybe Tesla should have a bracket group?
- Or if Tesla is the role model, how about Ford closing & firing all of their Marketing department & vendors. That'd probably save them $200M+ per year every year.
- Or let's talk dealership network and start axing there. As well as bringing the few that will still be needed internal; not franchised with sweaty salesmen applying BS "market adjustments" to the sale price or other BS add ons that no one needs. After all, Tesla fully controls the user experience online & at the store.
- Or how about we talk UAW competitiveness. <ducks>

But yea, it's the Brackets group....
