kind of a cool idea.

wonder if it will have issues with the laser coming on so many times in one spot...burn a hole in the wall or piston.

or if these lasers could be taken out and used for weapons of mass destruction. haha photo below of the inventors.

Like I said, I wish there was more technical data.

As far as I read it and the way its worded, it seems like they are able to control it fairly well. If that is the case then the possibilities are almost endless.

If they can keep the intensity constant (if desired) but limit distance, they can control piston/LASER exposure. If they can control the direction then they can therotically spin the LASER beam in the cylinder to eliminate hot spots. Similar to a screen saver on a monitor to avoid burning a picture into the screen. I wonder if they can coat the tops of the pistons to optimize LASER reflectivity and maybe acheive a less partial burn as well.

Probably not. You need to generate a shit ton of power in order to make a laser cut through metal. It only needs to be hot enough to ignite the fuel.
