Just bought my first 5.0 Fox...Know nothing about them, where to start

im not sure if its been said yet or not but an electric fan from a taurus or mark 8 is a good cheap upgrade. you can also find an aluminum driveshaft from an aerostar van that will bolt right into the fox. and 2000 and up 4wd rangers had 3.73 and sometimes 4.10 gears in them!!

AOD is your weak link? Obviously coming from people that don't know how to use an AOD. Come line up your 5 speeds against my stock internal AOD.

do tell

I CAN say that this AOD is a turd the way it sits. It never seems to be in the correct powerband. whatd u do to get yours to launch like that?

Are you keeping this now Matt? It is a nice car :D
probably, just like every car ive got...the GN, Lincoln, and now this. They were all purchased with the intentions of selling them, but I never do. haha

this one needs some work, but itll keep me busy for the summer just tinkering with it. Im excited to have my first 5.0 stang, but chances are, once i get some coin saved up, itll prob get the drivetrain yanked out for a 408 or ls1

Also, the metal around the door striker is broken and its kinda loose. itll probably need to be rewelded or soemthing, ive never seen this happen on a car before as its not like its rusty, its just like it got jammed really hard and split the metal. is this a common thing on foxes?

i have a new K&N conical for that car. bought it off trunk and never used it. its yours for free. i also have a used 4:10 that will cost you $50. i can have it installed too. just let me know.

the door thing happens, more on verts that i have seen. a gear and converter and it will be a new car. you did get the 2nd heaviest fox built. only second to the GT AOD vert

Good deal

+1

Get yourself a 4.10 gear ($50 from your buddy up top), Trans Go shift kit (got mine on ebay $50) and a TQ converter (non-lock-up) if your keeping the stock cam I would go with a 3,000 stall. You will have a big smile on your face :)

skip the 4.10s. Do 4.30's minimum IMO. Put 4.10s in the ex-wife's '95 and it could have used more. I ran 4.56s in a DD '90 but it was a T5 w/ 28" tires. That gear requires the specific crosspin though. Do the 4.30s, Trans Go kit, and the converter and it'll be a completely different car.

Well im gonna try the 4.10s out first. I do alot of highway/backroads driving, and I couldnt pass up the deal I got from Anthony, whose GT/CS is amazingly hot BTW

This things got a horrible bog though off idle, if I gas it in neutral then come off the pedal it almost wants to stall out. I pulled the plugs and they didnt look too bad, just were gapped too tightly. I also cleaned out the maf and popped in a new air filter, removed the air horn from inside the fender.

Is there a list of common maintenance to do every spring to get this thing running tops again? I also bumped the timing to 14 degrees

Whats next to remove and clean out, any settings I need to reset like TPS or anything?

Yes Definatley run premium fuel with the 14 degree timing, did you pull the spout when you timed it? Ive seen people forget to pop that out when timing, haha and i accidentally did it once in a hurry.

fox car and sn95 are different aodE. 4:10 is MORE than enough in stock fox AOD. and a 28" tire lowered the gear in your DD to around or below 4:10 final drive ( i dont feel like doing the math ). he has 26" tires, 4:10 is plenty
