Joels on Joy ?

My brother has his C4 at Joels. It has been there about 5 months and now he just keeps getting the run around on why its not done and how he would rather sell him a 400 instead.

I dont know about you or your brother but, that would piss me off to no end. OK so a 400 can handle more power and you wont have freshen it up as much, AWESOME, is the trans builder going to pay the added cost of the drive shaft to be made, bell housing ect. Sometimes people don't have the extra money to totally switch their set ups, and just want THEIR transmission gone through and put back together. As the builder it isnt what you want or would do to your car, its MY CAR MY MONEY MY DECISION. Just my thoughts though...

Joel Does awesome work, and is kind of a legend for building stout C4's, but you have to catch him early in the day. This is what one of his guys at the shop has told me. He is diabetic I guess, and gets all grouchy and shit later in the day when his sugar gets low. I dont know shit about diabetes, but it seems like that could be managed better? I cannot confirm this, but I heard he was building the C4's in the COBRA JET's, maybe he is busy as fuck with that? I know it is no excuse, and again, it is just what I heard. Can anyone confirm>?

rich is a great guy! knowledgeable, easy to get ahold of, and tells you what you need to know. no hiding or beating around the bush. i took him my t56, he tore it down and checked everything out, gave me an estimate and it was out of my price range, i didnt know the trans was hurt as bad as it was. rich told me i could come pick it up and he wouldnt charge me anything for the work he had already done (tear down) when you are as busy as him your time is valuable. and i appreciated what he did for me. he will have my business for a long time.

I believe they are, I wanna say I saw a article about it. Called the C2 I think? I'm not bashing his product at all. I just came on here to explain my situation and ended up saving a lot of money in the long run by doing so. Sometimes weird shit happens for a reason like that.

Next time take it to Detroit Gearbox. I called Joels before I called Rich, he told me my transmission is "not something I'd be interested in working on". Rich had my transmission done in about 2-3 days, he also explained to me when it was apart how every little piece works and why it goes bad. It wasn't a balls to the wall build and its still thrown everything I've given it and I will never go anywhere else.

Joel came highly recomended when I was looking for a 400. My trans was done when he said it would be, he beat everyones price by far. Last year I thought I broke it on a holeshot, took it out brought it back, he took it apart while I watched, found nothing wrong, put it back together and dynoed it. Everything checked out. He didn't charge me anything for the teardown and dyno. Come to find out I broke a spyder gear in the posi. I guess my point is nobody's perfect. I do know he is currently building alot of transmissions for Ford Motor Co. [don't know how many]. I am a happy customer and would return. Just my opinion. Jim

For the CobraJets. At least im pretty positive thats what they are for.

I called Joel back in December for a Powerglide. He said that he is busy with the Ford Cobra Jet Program and is not taking on any work until February. He told me to leave my name and would call me in February when all the CobraJets that he is building transmissions for are completed. Its not an excuse by him, but if I were running a transmission business and Ford said build some transmissions, you bet your ass I would be building those first.

I hope so. I recall a shop that resembled an ice fishing shanty from the 30's. Haha

I'm a happy customer of his and can't complain of his business practices. Not everyone is sunshine and roses. He basically called me an idiot for wanting a glide in a heavy, low power car but he was sharing how knowledge as politely as he knew how. Haha

I heard talks a few years back of him moving out to a pretty sweet shop he had out in South Lyon, dunno if it ever happened.

I too was a happy customer of his and would have no real qualm about using him again, but I've gained the impression that he's not the best show in town anymore.
