Hey guys, its time to turn in the damm cobalt (THANK GOD!!!) I still have a little while but we may try to turn it in a few months earlier so she dont have to drive in the winter again with a 2 pound car, I have been eyeing used Commanders - the price for them are really nice, and it helps that they have the 3rd row and 4x4 with a v6 (not sure if its a big difference vs the hemi). Do any of you guys own one or know anyone that could maybe let me know a few things to look out for or possibly bad things that happend while owning there truck. Also does anyone know what does future repairs and parts look like for this truck? Any insight would be great!

Thanks

they are decent, after driving one for a while things i noticed were:

a lot of blind spots for me
VERY sensitive steering on the highway
brake rotors warp pretty easily
not great gas mileage
pretty weak power with the V6 but manageable

I have had one with the Hemi since just before Christmas last year.

I haven't had any real problems with it so far (it has about 19,000 miles on it already) and I get about 18mpg combined (I have heard all the engines get about the same MPG's)

It pulls my GTO on a Uhaul trailer without a problem, if I was going to tow regularly I would get a load levalling hitch for it.

I think I would suggest against the V6 model, I would go with either the Hemi or the smaller V8 (dont recall what it was maybe a 4.7L), its a heavy vehicle and i just don't know how it would do with too small an engine.

a friend of mine just turned his in early. was a pile of shit. blew 3 motors in 1700miles.

1. rod out the block with 300 miles

2. 2 injectors decided to stick open and split the block @ 1100 miles

3. cam broke, unsure if the timing chain took it out or the cam just broke.

was the 4.7

dealer could not get the abs light to go off

wheel bearings were whining like a cat in heat when it was turned in

I was shopping around with my dad for one back when they just came out... I was thoroughly unimpressed with the fit and finish of the interior. Tacky slabs of cheap plastic everywhere.

But now that they've followed the Chrysler trend of dropping value like no damn other, you can't really complain for a decent hauler. :icon_wink

Thanks for a lot of the insight guys, I come to find every suv/car has so many pros and so many cons so its really hard to find anything, im looking for a mid size suv (commander, ford explorer, grand cherokee, mountaineer) maybe a few more ( I want to stay american) but out of all of those I come to find for price and mpg overall pacakge the commander comes out ok, I agree with fantom the price job is INSANE they were 40k trucks and still are new but used value is just sooo cheap kind to good to pass up.

thanks!

I got one. Silver with the 4.7L v-8 in it. I like it alot. But it gets HORRIBLE gas mileage. I am seeing an average of 12.7mpg.

Truck drives great and has pretty decent acceleration with the little v-8.

My cousin had one the he kept taking back to the dealer for a loud ticking noise in the motor...Dealer said "it was normal"...On the third time he was heading back to the dealer, the rocker arm broke while driving!

wow so many peopel saying they suck and some saying no problems ARGG!!!! lol 12.7mpg is bad you guys are right I might as well get the tahoe lol

dpmcghee how many mpg are you seeing?

The range of responses really confirms the quality control issues that Chrysler is well known for. I'd consider leasing a new one (with a warranty), but I'd shy away from a used one. That's just my personal risk tolerance though..

For the Explorer/Mountaineer I'd do an 06+ as they (based on my reading) fixed tons of legacy bugs.

The newer Tahoes get 16/20 MPG, not 9..

I'd add the Chevy Trail Blazer / GMC Envoy to your search list. I've leased both and each of them served us well..

Happy shopping.

As Scooter mentioned, we have an 07 limited with the 4.7l v8 flex fuel E85 engine. Overall we've been happy with it. We traded in a 05 cherokee laredo for this unit, and we like it much better. more room for storage, 3rd row seating, much more spacious interior.

MPG's? well, definitely not a prius. LOL.. but you dont buy this vehicle for gas mileage. We get about 15 city, and 18-19 highway. depends on your driving style.

Trailblazers are UGLY unless there an SS :) and when you say newer tahoes/yukons are you speaking in reference to 06+ models?

Thanks for your input as I agree its not a prius but I was getting a bit worried when I seen the 12.7 mpg I dont know I guess if anything which ever I end up doing ill check the vin to see if all the recalls have been done and will continue to shop!
