ITT Tech closing the doors

I read that the Federal government basically put them out of business. Raised the amount of cash on hand to way more than what it was last year. Once again Obama is picking winners and losers. Teachers unions at states schools complain about for profit schools, and look what happens. THANKS OBAMA! If you think this closure is anything other than a political payback, then you are mistaken.

Making it even harder to get a tech degree trying to coerce more kids into more student loans in 4 year programs that won't get them jobs.

Yea... that's the real story here.... goverment regulations putting a company out of business.

The credits earned at ITT weren't transferable to any other college or university. It was basically a company that raked in profits on the backs of students receiving government loans while leaving them high and dry afterward. I know a few people that went there, none were ever able to get meaningful employment based on their "degree" from ITT Tech. For IT related careers, it's best to cut your teeth on the help desk while earning certifications on your own, at a community college, or earning a BCS from a 4 year university.

Yes, lets blame Obama for stopping the funding of a business that left thousands of people with massive debt and no skills or worth while documentation to even show for it. What an ass hole him and his Department of Education are.

Got my associates degree from the Grand Rapids school back in 84. It and what I learned has served me VERY well ever since.

The ITT Tech you went to was prior to ITT Corporation divesting itself from ITT Tech. Essentially, the school got to use the ITT Tech name from 1999 onward, but as a whole turned into a shell of it's former self.

Ken, you're missing the point. Think of all those beautiful flower pots
and ash trays those fine, highly educated folks can produce!

We have to drag parents, drugs and poor decisions into this conversation somewhere. This seems like as good a place as any. You know that poor bastard majored in poetry because the girl next to him had the sweetest ass he'd ever seen.

he was a free spirit a modern day hippie one of the best designers ive had bastard moved to Denver for some reason

from what im reading, the current students and recent grads can apply for loan forgivness

For the temporary credit (which is due by the time you would graduate and is often far more than you can afford to pay at once) that they offer you when your student loans no longer cover the cost of school. There have been a few people to have the federal loans forgiven but, not very many have gotten that far.

Then people shouldn't pick those schools then. Education is a somewhat free market, although it is less of one today then it was last week. If it was a waste of money they would have been gone long ago. The fact that they had continued enrollment tells me the demand is there for whatever skills/classes they are providing. You can waste your money just as efficiently at U of M or MSU or even Macomb. The difference? The teachers at ITT aren't in the teachers union. You are kidding yourself if you think this is anything but that.

Trust me, Obama doesn't give a single shit about wasting Federal money (see Obamaphone program if you need any more proof). This is all about the AFT and paying off eight years of unwavering union support.

No. You're either leaving out facts so you can talk shit about Obama or you just haven't bothered to read up on ITT and their issues. Them closing is a good thing. They preyed on uneducated and poor people who were already in a shitty spot and managed to make it worse for quite a few of them. Their recruiting schemes, their job placement rates, their drop out rate, etc. There are plenty of reasons they're different than other non-profit and even most for profit schools.

That sums up ITT fairly well.
