The whole trip was a clusterf*ck to be honest. The website said they were open at 8:30 on Saturday...turns out they open at 10:00...so I had to piss away 90 minutes until they opened because I wasn't going home (20 minutes one way) and then coming back later. I'm a morning person, so I wanted to hit it right away and figured the selection would be best then too.
When I asked the guy working the floor about separating them, he was very firm that there was no way. And I'm guessing they want far too much for them all (there was a lot)...hence my thoughts on just buying new and moving along.
The other part is my time...I've already wasted too much. I'm not driving all over town and pissing away another half a day or more looking for a pair of cheap cabinets.
Again, I appreciate the help/heads up...it just doesn't appear it's going to work out in this case.
That sucks, I work in Pontiac, so I just stopped in.
Now as I think about it, I wanted two uppers. One was a stand alone, the other came with a "matching" base. It didn't actually match, it was close but the door features were different between the base and upper. They insisted that I had to buy the lower since the upper I wanted and the lower were donated as a set..... Did I mention they were not identical?
I ended up buying all three pieces, a 30" upper, a 36" upper and a 36" base. I had a Malibu at the time, and somehow fit the two uppers in the car (barely), and said I'd come back for the base. The manger said I had 3 days to come back for the base, which I didn't want, or I'd forget my purchase. That was Feb 2016..... I may be past the 4 day point.
Total cost $60 for the 3 piece set.
Sometimes it works sometimes it's not worth the hassle.
I used my cabinets to make storage under my table saw and made a cabinet for my compound sliding mitre saw. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. I now have a monolithic cube under the table saw to store the other saw, Sanders, nailers, router, etc, and can move it around the garage with ease.
