I had a thread similar to this before but here's what I'm thinking the front frame rails in my mustang have a little bit of rust right above where my k member bolts to it I've cleaned all of the rust out of it now I'm wondering if I was to weld in like 1/4 plate the length of it would that be to much? I'm going to run motor plates in it I just want to make sure the chassis will be able to handle the abuse I'm going to put it through I have a 347 w/ diamond pistons it's going to have Vic jr. Heads and intake huge cam and odds are a c4 with a brake. I have the steel and a good welder. Just let me know if this is over kill for my combo and maybe pics of what some of you guys do any help would be great!!

Thanks Ryan

A little bit of rust, or huge gaping holes and you can see the inner framerail? holes need to be patched, 1/8" is plenty, if no holes, don't worry about it. Regardless, if you already have 1/4" use it, will add a bit of extra weight though.
I did a repair on an '88 I had, used a L channel though, 1/4" cuz' I had it, worked fine but needed a lot of smoothing to blend with the tower.

I'm goin to cut out and patch the spot there is a hole but I just wanted to put steel there to help it out weight isn't much of a concern to me ive done enough weight reduction to make up for it I may have 1/8 at the shop I just saw the 1/4 there yesterday and got to thinking dose anyone have pics of this done?

Cut into it and look. Make sure the inner frame isn't rotted out, and the spacer that go inside the frame rail aren't reduced to powder. Odds are if it's got urface, and holes it's better to open it up and check the rest. The repair isn't hard. We don't have pictures, but i have two biddues who just did thier cars, and it wasn't too bad.

1/8th is good enough ryan...just cut all the rusted aera out and patch it cut like 1/4 inch away from the rust and after u weld it up put some seam sealer on it...go to fordson to get the sheet metal
