Here is a new one for you internet TV lovers, finally some live streaming of better channels.

www.sling.com

They will be broadcasting ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, HGTV, Food Network, CNN, Travel Channel, & ABC Family, for $20/month. My wife will be happy and I can have some sports again lol

From the sounds of it, this is in the pipe and if you put your e-mail in there you can get it before it goes public. It would be nice to have some live sports again.

Definitely good progress, but not what we really want: a la carte.
I'd be satisfied with a couple of AppleTV applications for Fox Sports Detroit and CBC.
Instead I'm stuck paying $100/month for DirecTV - hundreds of stations and only two or three that I watch.

This.

I could even do without ESPN, but I'd need Fox Sports for the Tigers.

$20 per month is a bit high for The Travel Channel.
Yes and no, for me to add these channels to my Charter cable it would cost me an extra $40/month on my bill and a additional $5/month per TV (charter makes you rent a cable box per tv since they are full digital now, no just basic cable on a coax to your cable ready TV anymore), yes I would get more than those 8 channels but the other channels I won't watch so it doesn't make since to me for that. In addtion if you are allowed so many devices you can share it. Right now I share my Netflix and Hulu with my brother, he has my username and password and I have his. We each watch them both and each pay just the $7.95/month. So I would imagine we could just split the sling service.

I would love to be able to get Fox Sports on my Roku,PS3, or Wii but I can't and I won't pay the cable company or direcTV that much for just the 3-5 channels that I would watch.

Still seems a little pricey, but at least they're starting to pick out what you might watch and only pay a portion of a subscription fee. I have the Amazon Fire Stick but there is no way to pick through the "Free" stuff on Prime, you have to click and see if it is free or not? I spend my time on netflix. We just dumped all cable TV in favor of better speed internet, free OTA TV, and Netflix/Amazon Prime, results to follow.......

i would gladly pay $20 for tnt, tbs, fx, cartoon network, fox sports and amc.

that package up there isn't worth it. if they cut espn the price would probably be cut in more than half and at that price wouldn't be a bad deal. I'd pay 8-10 for those channels minus espn.

Unfortunately, the CEO of Dish, who owns Sling, said that a la cart channel selection/pricing will never be feasible due to the cost model.

You can get CBC with antennae.
FSD is the hard one. You'd have to buy a MLB.com or NHL.com online subscription, and then a VPN service to bypass the local game blackouts.

bringing this back to the top, how do I watch tigers games with internet tv? just get the mlb.com package?

sling would cover my needs, except for some nascar races and tigers games

If you still live near lakeside mall you're in the blacked out area for the Tigers. You would have to get something to relay your internet connection to somewhere well outside of the area and then subscribe to MLB TV

Same here. I really only watch Discovery/Science/H2/Fox Sports Detroit (or anything Red Wings)/ DIY/HGTV/AMC.
