Interesting drive home today...

So, I'm driving home down Wayne Road as I do everyday. I'm approaching Glenwood and the light is green. The light is about to turn yellow and I get in the left turn lane and turn, but glance over at the car that was stopped at the green light and notice the driver stooped over in the seat. I proceeded to go around the block and back out to Wayne Road to further investigate. As I turned, the light was again green and the car was still stopped there people were honking and going around, but no one stopped until I pulled up. Myself and another guy got out and started pounding on the window of the car and tried to open the door. The door was locked and there was no response. We called 911. Another guy stopped and as he walked up the guy passed out in the car must have let his foot off the gas slightly and the car started to roll forward. The three of us held the car back and the police got there quickly. They tried pounding on the windows, using a slim jim on the door, then finally blew out the window on the passenger side and opened the door. When the window was busted, the guy in the car moved a bit and by the time the police got over to that side, a fire truck and ambulance arrived and they had pulled him out of the car. He stood up on his own, but seemed like he was either high or drunk... he definitely wasn't right. The police took our information and the ambulance took him away... :headscrat

Weird....

Weird!

WHen I still lived at home, we lived on a gradual curve. I was driving home from somewhere middle of the day, and this car is coming over the line at me, I swerve, he goes right up in someones front yard, car stops. Slumped over. I turn around, call 911, try and open car, same shit, car locked. Nothing a 8 cell mag light couldnt open though. Never did hear wtf happened, but he was REALLY old, like I would say 85+...... They seriously need to have an annual or biannual driving/health test for people over 65...... They are dangerous. They sometimes mow down a playground full of kids, and the cops just send them on their way, usually in the same car LOL..... "oh its ok, hes just old" How many times have you heard the story "I stomped on the wrong pedal" HOW DO YOU HIT THE WRONG PEDAL? I get TF out of their way in parking lots. I saw this old fart in a ford escape totally brake torquing the shit out of it as he was trying to pull into a parking spot, running it at like 5K rpms, totally unaware...... damn 2 foot drivers............

Rant off

Thanks for stoppping and helping! You don't see alot of people getting involved in anything these days.

"Old people, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. Don't you go dyin' on me!"

Anyone? Anyone? Movie it's from?

Seriously though, +1 to you for doing that.

YES this is what ALL of us should be doing , these days most people are afraid to get involved......pick your battles if it looks wrong and could come back on you or if it looks like a roose to jack you move on...But call 9-11 first.

When I was an intern @ Mid Michigan Medical Center- Midland in the Cardiac Rehabilitation dept., I’d sometimes go home @ lunch. Well, one of our 1pm patients happened to be our neighbor (and the father of a neighbor my parents are close to). One day I ended up following him most of the way to the hospital, and I was quite impressed with his driving (he’s 87). Then, on the hospital campus he stopped at the 4 way intersection, and when it was his turn started to turn right I noticed right away something was wrong. He was turning super wide and slow. He plowed right into a car stopped at the stop sign- he wasn’t going fast, the cars barely dented but I was worried about what happened to him to CAUSE the accident, not the accident itself. I tried to put on my hazards to get out to help, but people were honking and pretty much pushing my bumper to get through, so I kept going. I wouldn’t have, but he was, kid you not, RIGHT in front of the ER and some nurses that were on the sidewalk were already helping him. When I got to my building I informed them of what happened. They allowed me to walk back to the scene b/c I was so worried. Turns out he had a stroke. He never returned to our rehab. Ever since, his health has taken a turn for the worst. He’s the nicest man ever, its tough to see someone’s health deteriorate so rapidly. While I agree some older drivers are dangerous, I don’t know that a health screen would do much good to determine driving privileges. If we took away the license of every one with the potential of having a stroke, you’d be surprised by how many people would be affected. I think, at the very least, elderly people shouldn’t be allowed to drive alone when the potential of having an event while driving has increase due to health concerns. They won’t let epileptic people get their licenses at all unless they are seizure free for so long just because of the risk of one- I don’t think requiring a driving buddy is out of the question for other health conditions.
