Do you have any idea on what sq.ft. this can heat? I know it has more factors than just that, but I'm not really sure what size constitutes a 2.5 car garage. I'd really like this for our shop, but I have a feeling it might be undersized. It's right around 1,000-1,100 sq.ft.
 
How is it controlled? Does it have a thermostat built in or do you use a standard home thermostat to control it?
 
Oh man. I feel for the guys who have to work in a cold garage......

Guy down the street, has the same heater, built a stand for it and converted it to propane. nice setup.
 
No I gave him Raj's broken piece of shit, you know the one that he traded me for all that work I did on that stupid golfcart.... He convertered that one also and now has 120,000 btus of heat in his one car garage!! I dont think he needs 45k more.
 
45kbtu should heat a 2000+sqft home so I don't know what people are thinking when they're worried about this heating their garage.
 
I'm worried because I couldn't find any info online that said that and I'm no heating/cooling expert. Their websites either say "3 car garage" or "contact a dealer for info." I was mainly wondering what a 3 car garage translated into as to square or cubic feet, however they rate these things.

Doesn't it need line of sight though, vs. forced air? If one end of the garage is a little cooler, no big deal. What I don't want is this thing running all the time because it's undersized, which is what happens now with my two little non-vented forced air heaters.

Here's a rough draft of the shop with rough dimensions. Ceilings are ~14' and flat, no rafters. The red square is pretty much the only place I can put the heater so that it's far enough away from the cars. Those shelves on the right side are ceiling height industrial shelving, moderately full but you can see through them. The other squares are either benches or plastic shelves, and that's a parts washer right next to the bench that's under where the heater would be. Obviously when there's a car on the lift, which is usually, it can go to ceiling height.

Do you think this shouldn't be a problem for this heater in that location, given the dimensions and obstacles?
