So, just about a year ago, I was in a hurry to get the car ready for the WDC. At the time, it had a dumped exhaust just before the axle and I was to the point of being annoyed with it. Naturally, I bought a cat-back and threw it on. Little did I know at the time that the genius who welded up one of the flanges on the jig at Borla was clocking them incorrectly. This caused the passenger side tailpipe to hang a little low. Never the less, I wasn't thinking and muscled that sum-bitch up to near correct location and figured I'd screw with it after the cruise. Life happened; I got busy and forgot all about it. Fast forward to October and an evening upon which I returned from Stanton only to find that the passenger side tailpipe had shifted a bit and melted a hole in my gas tank. Profanities flew as I started making mental notes of parts that needed to be accumulated for the spring.
Well, spring came pretty quick thanks to the mild winter. We managed to get the hole in the tank patched up temporarily enough to start the car up and get it on my buddy's trailer. It then made the brief journey from Lansing down to Sean's shop in Waterford. Showing up at his door, Sean had already made arrangements for Schram's to drop off a "new-to-me" gas tank and I supplied him with virtually everything I could think of so that he could work on the car and not have to worry about chasing parts. This included an new PCV setup, replacement valve springs, headers, rear end fluid, spark plugs, etc.
Now, it's no secret that Sean tends to over-commit himself to try and make people happy. We both wanted to get me back on the road so that I wouldn't be without a car this summer. Because of the condition of a few parts (like my leaky rear axle seal), it took a couple of tries and trips to the shop to get it right. But, Sean was willing to make the effort until it stopped leaking....and he did. The headers are in, they fit great, and came back to me with custom v-band flanges and some additional tweaks for an easy tear down should it be necessary later on down the road. The catback issue that started it all was fixed since Sean cut the flange off and welded it the right way like the ass at Borla should have done in the first place....and it included a new bullet muffler in the I-pipe to help quiet down the all familiar rasp that comes with 4th gen F-bodies not running a true dual setup. Oh yeah, it also received an SJM line lock and !ABS kit while it was there...plumbed, wired and ready for me to finish up once my custom interior switch panel came. On top of a few other odds/ends Sean helped me with, he also managed to find me a local buyer for my old headers, managed the delivery, and currently owes me a few bills for them. But, I don't doubt that I'll get them the next time I see him.
If you want the truth about the guy from my perspective, it's this: Sean will work his ass off week after week, month after month trying to make people happy (wife, family, business associates, and customers). If there's anything that is his downfall, I'd say that's it. You see, life happens. As much as we'd like to be able to predict the future, we can't. In an ideal world, shit would fall in place and Sean would keep the deadlines he promises. But, things don't always fall into place. I get that. I think Dr. Teeth (and the virtually new car built from the ground up he's about to get back) and SS4Matt get it too. It looks awesome BTW, Teeth!
Bottom line, those of us who know him and trust him to work on our cars (and heed his advice about what will work, what might work, and what might not be such a good idea) are thankful for the work he does. The rest…well, y’all are welcome to your own opinions.
On a personal note, Sean, thank you for giving me the opportunity to enjoy my car this summer. I just hope that one day we can get you to be a little more honest with yourself (and us) about how long something really is going to take. Under promise and over deliver, man...
