Impressed with the gas mileage from my new Fusion!

Thanks again to Matt Stanford and Varsity Ford. At the end of February, I leased a 2015 Fusion Titanium Energi. With 90 miles to empty, I finally decided to get gas. I couldn't be happier with the car so far. The first month I had it was freezing and this decreases the electric range due to using the heat, defrost, heated seats, and steering wheel. Though it's still cold in the morning, the range seems to be improving. With a mix of city and expressway driving, I averaged just over 72 mpg and got 1,047 miles on the tank of gas that was in it when the dealer delivered it... If only I could charge at work.




Of course I couldn't leave it alone.. It has H&R springs, tint, and I plastidipped the grill to get rid of some of the chrome up front.

Unfortunately power can't be generated for free, whether it's from the pump or coal fed electricity. Most people will say there's no difference , because there's no metric to trace a users year to year consumption.

If you can charge for free at work, then sure it's a no brainer

Those arguing electric vehicles are better for the environment should calculate their local well to wheel emissions. I'll leave the whole battery topic alone, as it's a whole another story

As I mentioned, I don't buy it. Everyone uses let electricity differently month to month, let alone year to year.

Most EV owners become more aware and take additional matters to reduce usage. So saying the increase is only x% is a meaningless statement. How can one argue they used x amount on home and y amount on the car without having a separate meter?

The there's additional cost to install a charging station....which isn't free

As Anthony mentioned, I'm on the budget plan. My bill is $71/month. I have the car set up to charge on off peak hours. DTE emailed at the end of March saying the usage was up, but less than 10% over the month. I'll be interested to see the difference after a year. I had a 2014 Fusion wih a 2.0 EcoBoost and was spending over $150/month in gas. Even if the electric bill increases, it won't increase $150/month. I don't have a charging station, the charger that comes with the car uses a standard outlet.

I work for dte, I know how the system works. I'm on the budget plan too. I know how meters work, I know what it costs to install a meter.

The can if fucking free! Go get one and stick it up your diesel ass.

2 It's simple to update the wiring to a dual meter.

3 all you have to do is call for the additional meter. Dte installs it for free.
There's a small fee per month. $3 iirc to have the meter.

My mother had a a dedicated meter installed for her central ac about 10 years ago. They installed the meter aprox 10 months ago. The can comes with jumpers installed.

That happens A LOT also. The new service guys are over a year behind right now. And shit always falls through the cracks.

Also with the smart meters and a fucking free app on your phone it's fucking free and simple and free to see what EACH and EVERY thing plugged in your house is using.

My kilowatt usage is on my bill, my wife saves them for 5 years with the taxes. I look at it every month and it's usually +\- 5 each and every month from the past year. The bill is free to look at. And I look at it with a candle so the only cost is free matches from work. Also disposal of the used match in my fire pit. Free as well.

So plugging in a fucking car, I'm sure Rick can see the bump in usage as the usage was still in the 10% range from the previous year, also included on the bill.

I'm no longer at Livernois, but keep in close contact with them and still have them modify my cars. If interested, call Jaimie and tell him I sent you. I had a 2014 2.0L Titanium before this car and had them tune it. Anthony also has a Fusion EB, F150 EB, and 2015 Mustang modified by them.

Here is my before and after graph.



I immediately noticed improved throttle response and the transmission calibration was much improved! Shifts were firm and precise and it no longer felt lazy or like the trans is slipping between gears.


In stock form, the car would chirp the tires (barely) and go. Even with the 87 octane tune loaded, you have to roll into the throttle or the tires spin through first, chirp on the 1-2 shift, and spin through the rest of second gear. If you roll into it, it still spins a bit and chirps the tires on the 1-2, but it feels much quicker.


The 93 octane tune felt almost like going from stock to the 87 octane tune in terms of seat of the pants gain.


This is without a doubt, the best modification for these cars. In addition to the increased power, it gets mcuh better fuel economy. In stock form with 87 octane, I was seeing 22.5 avg mpg (all city). With the Livernois 87 octane tune, even with some spirited driving, I was seeing just over 26 mpg (all city).

But you won by over reacting to all hell. By my tally you won 5-1.

My main point is, bragging of getting 72mpg, there's far to it than that. There's much more cost than paying for fuel, no upfront costs (vehicle or infrastructure costs).

If yo u really want to bash diesel that badly I suggest you do some research on the market before going to crazy. Sure hybrids are great, but there is much more to it than mpg.

Rick not only does your hybrid look cool, the mpg benefits make it a +100. You can make up the difference in carbon footprint for my modded V. Gas mileage isn't it's forte but it sure sounds good & a hoot to drive.

I was looking at getting Gloria a 2.3 EB MKC (with a Liv-tune) . Do they make a MKC hybrid?
