this is my 1943 turkish mauser. 8mm if your wondering.
I have shot a bunch of rounds out of it. The rounds I have for it are machine gun rounds put on stripper clips.

...snip..

Looks like the same ammo I have, 1938 dated (assuming), brass cased, cupro nickel jacket, highly corrosive on 5rd strippers in 70rd bandoleers. It is not specifically MG ammo, but regular service ammo for both rifle and MG. It is loaded quite hot and should only be fired in guns with provisions for gas leakage. I have an 1893 Turk that looks similar. I make sure to use windex on the corrosive salts in the bore before starting regular cleaning. The ammonia removes the salts.

My 1893 is not safe to shoot that stuff but my M48 Yugo is.
The Turks were Neutral but leaning Axis during WWII and their military was in poor condition.

The Turks used cloth belt-fed Maxims and Vickers MGs about the time when that ammo was made.
similar in appearance to this;

i'm not an expert, but i think your red dot is too far forward. but it probably doesnt matter. i guess it would make for a more accurate sight having your head farther away from it but, slower to acquisition a target. i know on our aimpoints the front of the base is lined up with line on the side of the weapon. i cant remember what brand buis we use but its a lot smaller than whats yours is so it allows us to have the mounted farther back. im pretty sure we use the line on side of the weapon for proper sight trajectory out to 300m. the base of aimpoint even has a small riser to raise the sight about 1/4 i guess, because the m4 is shorter than the m16.

Ya I wanted to keep the use of the iron sights. It seems just fine. I'm just using it at the range to play around with right now.

I'm saving my pennies for a nice set up, so it will be gone soon anyways.

You know too much about guns :lol:

All I know is I have gotten that barrel hot. About 30 rounds through it with out any problems in one day. I always use solvent and oil after shooting. the rifiling is perfect.

There is nothing more fun than ripping rounds down range with a smelly old battle rifle. Warm em up while "repelling a charge of the HUN" lol

Despite what people say about this gun...for the price I love it. It's very light and compact. The only thing I don't like about it is the trigger pull is pretty heavy. I plan on getting a different spring to end that.
