has called me "updating me on my power outage".
I think this storm simply over-taxed DTE's system for
handling this mess.

The outage system definitely has some bugs to be worked out as it estimates outage to be much larger than they actually are which results in customers receiving calls like you did.
As much as people hate them, the Smart Meters are very useful in these instances to verify if a customer is indeed energized.

they still haven't been to my house yet. And just for the record, I do have a DTE
"Smart Meter".

US-23 was shut down yesterday afternoon...right near Cone Rd in both directions due to a downed power line

Now DTE is saying "no estimate of restore of power".
