I'd like to get a DVR recorder, any opinions?

I have ATT Uverse and I have a DVR box with a bunch of my daughters shows on it and I want to burn them to DVDs so she can watch them and I can clear them off the box.

Anybody have a recorder?

Likes/dislikes?

Brands/model to look at/stay away from?

They don't seem to be very common.
 
Captain Obvious answer, but have you considered deleting some of your daughter's old programs on the DVR box to free up hard drive space ? Or are you asking about how to specifically burn recorded content to a storage device/CD/DVD-disc ?


I'm not *(*100%*** sure if you can readily transfer data off of your AT&T Uverse DVR box as it sits; got a feeling you may need to remove the hard drive inside of it and install it in a desktop rig and burn off content - reason I speculate about this is that in the past, I have tried to connect an external hard drive source to my UVerse box and attempt to move and/copy programs over in order to free up more space on the AT&T DVR box (to no avail).

If you don't want to deal with speaking with their call center support staff, ask your question over on the AT&T message board. One of their "techs" should be able to give you a more clear answer as to whether or not you can transfer data off of your DVR box to a secondary source in order to free up space:

FWIW - AT&T recently replaced my DVR box when the hard drive went bad in it and they replaced it with a DVR box that was double the size of the original DVR hard drive (250 GB compared to 125 GB, IIRC). You will lose the data on your small box, of course - just throwing that out there in case you are looking for a bigger storage system from AT&T.

I want to burn a bunch of her stuff to a DVD so I can put it in and let het watch the whole thing. I used to have a recorder but I don't any more. I can put a show on and it gives me about 20 minutes to do something. If I have a bunch on a disk I would have more time to get things done around the house lol
