and just happend to have my camera with me so i took some pics! me and my buddy had to go in the resturant and find the owner to tell him his car was on fire and we called the fire dept!! heres some pics

no clue. but i think i remmeber hearing theres a recall on those with the electrical system shorting out even when the key is out of the ignition. but idk. i honestly think it was faulty stereo system install...it was a younger kid

WASHINGTON, D.C. — General Motors has recalled 207,542 1997-2003 Buick Regal GS and Pontiac Grand Prix GTP models with 3.8-liter supercharged V6 engines over a risk that they could catch fire. The recall includes a strong warning not to park the vehicles "in a garage, carport or other structure" to avoid the risk of fire.
"Certain underhood fires may be caused by drops of engine oil being deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking," says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the recalls summary on its Web site. "If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel." Other documentation adds that "most cases have occurred five to 10 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off."

what he said there's a recall for engine fires on the s/c 3800's in the w bodies. We did a ton of recalls at my work.Its just the from valve cover that gets deformed from the heat because the valve covers are plastic so the recall is a new valve cover and gasket.

I bet it was the front valve cover gasket. GM issued a recall on 200,000 '97 to '03 Grand Prix and Regals with the 3800 Supercharged that stated "oil may leak from the front valve cover gasket onto the exhaust manifold causing a fire." When I had my GTP, I would get the recall notice a couple times a year from Noonan Pontiac.
